How to make barrel Muffler for teching??

    Hey yall,

Anyone have direction or advice on making one of these?? Have a crap ton of spare barrels and I really don’t wanna pay for one if I can make one DIY. I have not researched this as of yet but a quick google did not give me any info.

    thanks

Stuff a barrel swab in it

The prebuilt ones I've seen have "pneumatic mufflers" stuck on the ends. Something like this based on a quick mcmaster search:

I'll get some pictures of mine later but all it is is one PVC tube that fits over the barrel (tight is good) drill holes in it then another PVC for over the first with space in-between. Shove rags or old t shirt in-between the two PVC. Drill. Wrap both ends of the PVC with electrical tape (electrical tape has some stretch which I think helps absorb the shock of each shot) then drill holes in the outer PVC. Drill after you seal both ends with tape so you don't cover holes you already drilled

Mine works really well, my wife can't hear when I'm firing and she is on the other side of the wall.

One piece of advice, use a long barrel. I built mine on a cocker barrel and it's plenty useful but I can't use it on a cocker because of the front block pnus and it certainly won't work on a pump because of the pump handle

I used an old pod I found on the field that had a broken lid. I took the cap off, rolled up some 1.5in case foam and stuffed it down the length so the barrel can slide in. I put an elastic band with a cinch on it so it works for various markers and barrel lengths. Just cram the barrel in, put the band around the feed neck and fire away. I'm not sure if it matters, but I drilled some holes in the end to relieve some pressure. Pretty dang quiet and cheap to boot.

I LOVE this approach! Simple design. Great for those without 3D printers and with a ton of crapped out pods!

            Here you are

Once things I forgot to mention, you want to seal the barrel end of the inner PVC to the barrel and make sure no porting is outside of the PVC. You want to make sure all the air has only one way out and that's through your muffler

I made one of these way back in the day for my unported stock barrel on a Patriot II.. but it wasn't a muffler for teching. That mofo was LOUD and needed every edge I could get to keep the noise down lol

I pretty much only tech things with cocker threads it seems. So I made a muffler out of an original Emek barrel because who uses stock barrels and I had 2 laying around. Also had a barrel tube that barrels get shipped in. Drill a ton of holes on the Emek barrel, wrap it tight with a few layers of screen door material, wrap that in a thin fabric, stuff that into the barrel tube and viola!

Drill a few holes into the barrel tube near the base of the muffler where you theead it into the marker so the air has to travel through the entire device before escaping the outer tube.

I've made some 3D printed ones for people. Off the top of my head I think it uses the back half of a freak barrel. Actually never tried one for myself but they seem to like them.

Edit : on a hilariously ironic note, just yesterday I deleted the print files off of my printer for some space haha

I remember about 20 years ago, someone took the time to make one using a fiberglass pipe insulation roll, and then sent it to the ATF to be "inspected". Some people have too much free time.
The ATF approved it for paintball since that the design was too weak to work with a firearm. I couldnt find the website on google... but... since it requires no building whatsover, its an easy solution.

So, basically, a DIY muffler is just a DIY fleshlight but without the latex glove? Can i even say that on here?

I just use a tight fitting barrel plug. It's also helpful for those blowbacks that don't want to cycle without paint. It's probably not as quiet as a muffler but it's quiet enough for my usage.

I ordered a pneumatic muffler off Amazon (same as the one PumpMan linked) and then printed an adapter off of Thingiverse, in ABS resin. There are other adapters on there, but I had a back for my Mini that I don't use so it's perfect for this application. Been trucking for over a year.

And don't forget the BMC mufflers too!
