Nova releasing an updated barrel take PWR inserts and a quad detent cocker body. So no more rollout?!

And the ball no longer sits in the barrel..... so everyone that tries to underbore will end up with a barrel break.....
I really wish they would take feedback from people that actually shoot cockers regularly.

Looks like they just pushed the top of the body forward so the barrel sits further forward. I'm curious if the same effect couldn't be achieved with a Cocker-Cocker thread adapter that incorporates a nubbin. Not curious enough to bother, but curious.

I hope for their sake they didn’t change the pump arm or boot length because that will be a nightmare for their customers to navigate in the future if either are needed.

All they did was move the barrel threads forward. Everything else is the same.

I'd wager under that black cover is two rubber nubbin detents, and from the "quad detent" note in the OP, there's another one on the other side. So the rearmost pair are in the normal 'Cocker location, and hold the ball in the breech when the bolt is open.

When the bolt closes, it pushes the ball forward, into the new extended space between the nose of the closed bolt and the breech of the barrel. The ball is then held in place by the forward set of detents, until it's fired.

It's an interesting idea, though not exactly a new one. I recall one of the guys on the Tinker's Guild, a very long time ago (the pictures were hosted on Angelfire, if that tells you anything ) that showed off a completely custom-built pump that was kind of a cross between a Mercenary kit and an early Sterling, that did the same thing with four standard Autococker detents.

The only issue I can see is I've had people say that any side drag as the ball is fired, can impart a variable roll, reducing accuracy. That is, after all, how the old Galactic-Z bodies worked. I've never done any testing or had any direct experience myself, so as far as I'm concerned it's still just a rumor.

Either way, I'm always glad to see new ideas applied.

Will this not create a step for the paintball to smash into when it hits any sort of insert? This is quite the issue on the newer Sterling markers. I add an extra auto-cocker detent to my Sterling to stop this and run the stock large bore barrel. Ruins efficiency, but no more barrel breaks.

Maybe I’m lucky but I’ve never had an issue with my Sterling. I size the paint the the insert and don’t overbore.

On something like a cocker, the bolt pushes to ball into the barrel. On the older sterlings this was the case as the barrel threading finished at the breech. On the new sterlings, which are Spyder threaded, there is about an inch of dead space for the much smaller paint ball to float about in. I add an extra detent to hold the ball and stop rollouts. You wouldn't want a lip half way down your barrel, would you? But that's what created and sounds like what Nova will create if a small bore barrel is used.
