I know someone on here did a run of them in raw a while back. As for a 3D printed version, I may be able to draw one up based off of my original birdcage if I can identify what the threads are.
I would need to check on mine but I think the thread is the same as IVG thread
I had started a post pre hack to get all the dimension to make a drawing for the bob long birdcage. I think Kit made a drawing with the dimension and could still have it. He also have the tool and skill to make some, so you could ask him.
If Kit has the drawings already, aluminum would be the better option since it could be match anodized and it would be much more durable. I’ve seen plenty of the originals twisted up from over tightening. Plastic would likely snap. If new ones can be created, I would recommend having an o-ring groove milled in like on the Phantom TPC to keep it from working loose and eliminate the need to tighten it too much. That said, an o-ring inserted into the hole works well too.
Let me test print one and see how it goes. If it works out, I’ll upload the model to my Shapeways shop. Their quality is far better than anything I can make on my Ender 3.
As I feared, 3D printed materials are not a good pick for this design. I can't make the walls any thicker or they'll interfere with the bumper on the cocking rod. I can't make it any wider or it won't thread into the back block. These things will need to be milled out of metal or bust -- literally. The prototype didn't even make it all the way in without snapping.
If anyone wants to take a stab at milling these, let me know if you need the CAD drawings.
I'll can take a shot at it. I have a drawing with dimensions somewhere if I haven't lost it . But I'll take a cad drawing in case I can't find my drawing I made with the help of Alex.
