    Running Events

I didn't anyone else discussing running threads. Who enjoys running events? 5ks, 10ks, half marathons, marathons, trail runs, ect?

Ill start off by saying, Im not built to run, unless we sre talking springing 30 feet into another object and taking it out.

My wife and her sister have been doing Grandmas Half marathon for a few years. I starting doing the 5ks attached to those events just to kill the FOMO. I have a bad heart, so I limit myself to 5ks.

I can't help but enjoy an activity I hate as the events are kinda fun. You get a nice shirt out of the deal, a medal, some snacks, and some cheers along the way. There's people who walk their dogs or run strollers at the event. And its a great mix of people who you wouldn't think can run at all, to elite athletes so I feel I fit well in the middle of the pack. Its overall fun, and rewarding to cross that finish line.

The wife and I just ran the May One Run 5k this morning. Its a part of the MN Run Series of events which seem well organized.

They have chipped badges, and save your event times so you can back track your progress over the years.

From what I understand, we ran about 10 minute 50 second miles this event which isn't bad for us. Official results aren't up yet, but I can't complain about my times.

Lets start a thread about sanctioned runs. Whats your favorite? whats the hardest? Best prizes? Any finish line photos you want to share? Any tips for not gasing out mid run? Words of encouragement for someone afraid to try one?

Heres a pic of our finish line photo from today. I almost threw up at the end as I sped up a little bit to cross the finish line, and started dry heaving 10 yards out, so sorry got my ugly mug.

While I enjoy running I don't enjoy paying to do it, as fun as the races are. My wife does them a lot though.

My longest was a 6 miler a few years ago with my wife and pushing my son along. At the end we let him out of the stroller to run with us and he promptly ran into my legs and fell. We had to carry him across the finish line crying He ran a little kids sprint race successfully though.

I wish someone would carry me across the finish line as I cried!

Last Turkey trot was a 6k for some reason. And i managed to run that with out slowing down. I even out ran the wife who trains for these events, so I felt pretty amazing as a result, but my heart was q factor today for some reason, and I barely kept pace with my lady.

Weird that you post this, I just got back from the Pittsburgh marathon about 15 minutes ago. I didn’t run this year but my wife and some friends had a relay team so I was the shuttle.

there’s no better way to stay motivated than to run in an organized even with a ton of other people.

I couldn't even imagine running a full marathon.

I'm usually the wife's cab driver for Grandmas as she can barely walk after running a half. Lol

      I did 1, and that’s enough for a lifetime.

Me neither, but I really enjoy it. My wife and I used to do 5k and 10k races a lot, she's done a couple half marathons as well. She's currently getting her doctorate in addition to working full time so we haven't had a lot of time for running together lately, I prefer to do races with her as a couples thing, they're not as fun running with a bunch of randoms.

I do a lot of trail running, I enjoy the varied terrain and the coincidental forest therapy. I'm going to try and do a half marathon this year and try for a full marathon in 2023, but I'm a big guy and have completely flat feet so we'll see what happens.

Local 5k races are a lot of fun, they're usually super laid back and it's nice to see everyone out and about.

We did Goldy's Run this morning. Just a 5k around the University of Minnesota campus. The finish line is on the 50 yard like of the Gophers Bank Stadium. I'll tell you, having the last half mile route you into the stadium really re-lights that fire!

Results aren't posted yet, but this may be my PR for a 5k. I crossed the finish line at 37 minutes after the start, and there was a delay from the start to me crossing the start line due to bottle necking. Im estimating I ran it in 33 minutes or so. My goal is to run a 5k in a half hour flat, and I'm closer than ever to that goal!
