I loved to read them back in high school and get so jealous of the deals he would find. You won't find those anymore! I love small cars (especially hatchbacks) but the idea of getting a nice, comfortable, big, boaty, cruiser has always been a thought in my head. Especially wagons! Cars like the Impala SS and the Mercury Marauder are just to insane justify the prices compared to back just a few years ago. So cars like this cool green Fleetwood are much more appealing to me now. Anyone own anything like that here? What are you experiences with The Big 3's Brand offerings of land yachts in the 80s and 90s? Are they complete hunks of junk or great buys? Any info is appreciated. I know my next vehicle has to be a car like this. I want a daily driver that is as comfortable as its dependable. .

Those Fleetwoods are basically an Impala SS with bigger brakes... same drive train, lots of shared components, and the unfortunate use of Optispark as an ignition system.

I'd still drive one, though... I have a soft spot for GM land yachts.

Fleetwoods do not have rear disc brakes or the 3.08 gear of the SS. The front brakes are not really bigger, but the caliper has a slightly larger piston, but it doesnt really make a noticeable difference. It is slightly longer and a bit heavier. You can use most upgrades from any B Body on a Fleetwood. Same engine, same ECM tuning, etc. And as some people will say its a Corvette engine, it is not a Corvette engine....lol.

just fyi = MSD makes an optispark disi. as stated they got a bad rap because of placement/water pump leaks. ive always loved the B bodies, im a GM guy though

The MSD Opti is NOT worth the money, and isnt any better than a good GM Opti. Dont waste your money on one.

The 94-96 Fleetwoods, Caprices and Wagons (Buick and Chevy) are really dependable, as long as you maintain and repair with good parts, they are 25 years old. Ive had quite a few B Bodys.

I would prefer an EF or EG hatch myself. And a CRX SI before them all. 1st gen over a 2nd gen personally. .

Civic or Miata? I would go Miata early cheap 1st Gen manual. Man those things were a tank and fun to drive. Rear Wheel > Front Wheel

Chuck E Ducky I remember in highschool when first gen miatas were like 1-2000 bucks. 5-6 grand got you showroom clean sub 50000 mile rust free ones. XD

Yup I learned to drift on one. Man that was a fun car to drive beat the hell out of it and it kept on going. Owned a 5.0 swaped sleeper that payed for itself many times over racing in Philly. Use to eat up all the exotics racing “daddy’s car”

Lol, I have always had a thing for the Miata, but unfortunate for me it is big dog/small bed syndrome. I cannot sit in a first gen with the top up, or the door fully closed. I had an option on one with a Jackson Supercharger and well outfitted for brakes and suspension upgrades as well as roll bar and frame stiffening. I wanted it so bad that I considered having the seat modified, but came to my senses I guess you could say.

When I was 12 my parents decided to buy 2 new cars. My dad was gonna get a bronco ii in 2 tone black and white. My mom was getting a grand marquis wagon. They sat down to sign the papers and my mom spotted a mauve cougar with a burgundy coach roof (and dual lighted makeup mirrors ) She fell in love and got that instead. Dad decided to get the wagon anyway for family vacations. I ended up driving a pink car when I turned 17. Que sera sera

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, the first year of the first American production FWD. Not quite as big as the Coupe de Villes up there, but I've had me and seven friends in there.

Had it since I was a teenager. We dragged it out of a weed-filled back field, I yanked the dead 425, rebuilt a '68 455 in high school shop class and dropped it in, got my first three speeding tickets in it, and have been tinkering with it ever since.



And all these years, I've been waiting to become rich and successful enough I can finally fix it up right.

There has never been a manual-shift Toronado. And you can hardly call this a "survivor". It was two different colors when I got it- replacement sheetmetal from a crash- and as a broke teenager I tried to do some of my own bodywork to it. The engine is a '68, the transmission is a '77, the front brakes are '77, the rears are Cadillac, the headlights are custom because the original vacuum cans were first-year-only and ruined when I got it, the bumper was butchered as it, too, had been in the wreck, etc.
