    Other options to a SMAV-3

    Hi Pneumatic gurus,

Are there any other similar switch choices, that function the same as the SMAV-3 ? Are there any lever versions?

    Cheers, M7

Depending on what you want to do there is the Fabco-air MSV-2 sometime used for pneumag to switch the actuator.

Jordan could comment here, I know he did a lot of research on those

I have a msv2 that I dont plan to use if you want I could sell it to you

Thanks Alex, I might hit you up on your offer for this part later. But first I need to find a sweet used Ion, for a good price. I want to hold out for an upgraded one with aftermarket body, trigger, etc. If you see anything up your way, let me know! Cheers,

No problem will keep an eye open for you
But from what I have seen in the past its easyer to find a cheap ion and then find the bolt and body. As for aftermarket frame they are really rare.
As for bolt people just remember that they upgraded the bolt but dont know which one they put... and dont know about double tail oring

The biggest thing to overcome is that whatever switch you use for a mech Ion needs to be a Normally Open (NO) setup, and every miniature 2way valve I've seen, like a MSV-2, is a Normally Closed dealie.

Because SMAVs are a 3way valve, they can offer both NC and NO options on the same valve, simply by changing a hose position.

You could use a 2way to control a 3way air pilot valve, like a PAVO3, and that could give you a walkable trigger on a mech Ion. I might do a build with one at some point. But... you need an LPR for the MSV because they have a fairly low max input pressure, so the complexity and amount of internal and external air lines starts to go up.

    Clear as mud, right? πŸ™‚
And God turned to Gabriel and said: β€œI shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

β€œBut Lord,” asked Gabriel, β€œIs this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, β€œJust wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

It's pretty much the best solution. There are other valves that will perform the same tasks, but they're quite a bit bigger, such as the mav4. You could also use a cocker 3way with some kind of spring return.

I've heard people say this about Cocker 3-ways but have never seen it done. I tried it myself and the 3-way just pissed air like crazy from being over-pressurized. Have you done this? How did you get past the blowout?

Did you guys read my mind? I totally want to find a nice upgraded ion ( aftermarket body, nice double trigger) and see if I can make it a walkable mech ..... that is why I was hoping there was a lever version smav-3

Jordan, I may need you to draw on a napkin for me where the hoses go from the MSV-2 to a PAVO3 to the ION body !

The msv-2 is super light, so I think that would get you to the walkable realm.

The PAVO is the air piloted valve?
