    Stingray 2 leaks with co2

So in that estate sale was a old 9oz brass eagle that still had plenty co2 left inside, and a few of the loose vl pods had paint still in it. Shot it through my tigershark perfect (made that nice ping sound), so i then wanted to try the ray. My stingray usually will leak on initial air up and will go away completely with a shot or two or if you let it sit for a minute. Co2 it leaks significantly worse on air up and will eventually stop on it own but each time you fire it will leak for a few seconds until stopping again (this leak is down the barrel I believe btw, couldn't tell cause the barrel is so long). Not something im gonna try fixing cause i never use co2 cause none of the fields i ever go too fill it.

idk thought it was kinda a weird issue. Anyone might know why this is happening. Very curious myself.

    Stingrays leaky bastards sometimes.

I find that it is most generally the transfer tube that leaks, not the cup seal. Or what constitutes as a cup seal in a Stingray, anyways.

That transfer tube is truly horrible. The ASA is only secured by pins, which are not stable enough to provide a good seal when you add the weight of a tank. I usually wrap the ends of the tranfer tube with Teflon tape, over the O-rings, and enough to make it so I have the jam the ends of the transfer tube into the valve and ASA. Squeeze them together to get the pins in place.

The best thing to do is tap the valve and ASA for 1/8npt and replace it entirely with macroline.
If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

Yeah if i wiggle my stingray i can make it leak from the asa and other places I think. Tank weight definitely will do it too.

Is this any different than when you hook it up with HPA?

Guess I didn't explain it right. Same stingray, different leaks depending on gas. Wanted to know why it leaks down the barrel for a few seconds after firing on co2. While hpa i just shoot it once and it seals like a champ. It was a leak that peaked my interest by how it just stops itself everytime. Both leak on initial air up.

Old co2 is much craftier and sneakier then young co2, therefore it learned how to sneak past the cup seal by the time you got to gun number 2.
        it’s My hypothesis anyway

Gun number 2? Same stingray each time. Just it leaks on co2 and not hpa. Hpa it will leak on initial air up but goes away.

The tiger shark didn’t leak though , right?

I've got one as well that is a leaky Son of a Gun. I flipped the cup seal washer and it worked for a hot minute, but alass it is leaking again. May snag some off eBay.

Wait, there are Stingrays that don't leak?

The only Stingray that I have gotten completely sealed up is one which the valve was tapped for 1/8npt running an SS braided hose to a vertical ASA in front of the trigger guard, and it had a soft, orange CMI cup seal that was half as thick as the normal cup seal (required the lip on the valve nut to be filed down for it to seal). It had a random hardware store spring as a valve spring, and a stock WGP regulator.

It was actually the only marker I had as a child that I could leave aired up and still have CO2 the next time I used it. But that was, like, Version #22.5 so it wasn't exactly an easy process to get it working like that. Lol.

Just gave my daughter's fiance a 'ray at Michigan Monster Game as a joke. He loves that thing! (Yes he had something better to shoot that weekend...) After his second game it blew seals like everywhere. Tried to pay h it up with what we had and it still blew those out. It was all transfer tube. Check both ends out. Oringsonline.net has full rebuild kits for $4. So if you just want to do them all for piece of mind, it's a small investment.

I’ve owned 3 total in almost 20 years. 2 of those currently, 1 of which I’ve owned 5 or so years and is a stingray 1. It now sports a bottom line. In complete honesty, I’ve never had a leaky stingray. I don’t play very often though, and mine were always kept in good shape, so there is that
