    Break in periods

I installed a level 10 earlier and while using the largest carrier that doesn’t leak I noticed it still put quite a bit of force into the ball with the red spring and upon reading up on level 10 installs many people were talking about having to “break in” o-rings before you can really fine tube things

this makes me wonder, what exactly constitutes a broken in o-ring or regulator seat? Also how long does it take to get to this state, do Urethane, buna and Teflon all have different break in times? Are regulators really more consistent after time?

Depends on how much you shoot but in my experience within a couple of outings it will get broken in. Really depends on the o-rings actual size, shape and condition. While we talk about o-rings in definitive sizes, shapes and durometer they in fact vary quite a bit between manufacturer, batches and age. Here is the one time I recommend "dry firing" a marker. Keep it oiled and burn through multiple paintballs or re-balls to accelerate break in. In my experience this o-ring does not fail due to wear normally but more from age and getting hard. Accomplished Mag tuners like superman on here would be a good source for your question.

The most noticeable part of break-in is the loss of the mold lines on the inside of the o-ring. Once that is gone, the o-ring can sit for a few days to acquire its final shape. I have a short piece of stainless shaft that I put polishing compound on and ran the rings back and forth to get that mold line off.

The hardest thing to do is put a new ring in at the field and start playing. You might get lucky for the day, but I always ended up having to tune again next time.

I just play with Lvl 7. I even have a few good power tube springs so i don't have to mess with carrier spacing. Lol

Same. Level 7 with a Doc's Adapter to get the rubber finger detent and a Rotor or Halo Too hopper. My 1995 mag came with a power tube spring instead of a spacer (probably among the last to do so, given the year) and I've never had occasion to change it.

I've used Docs adapter since '05ish(?) without any hiccups. But recently I got a good price on a center feed Freak back, so I'm going to give that a shot. If I don't like it, back in with the adapter.

I use the gold spring 1.5 carrier. I have never had to change carriers. I don’t get a leak or bolt stick. It’s not finely tuned but it’s reliable. I use a halo so the lvl 10 hasn’t really had to do anything.

This is why I use a level 10 instead of a level 7, that is a 9v VL-2000 with the original tiny 2 prong agitator, I am certain I would have a paint blender shooting like that with a level 7 bolt

If you can do that with a mag's heavy trigger pull, you'd be an absolute terror with an upgraded EMEK.

I mean I shot the Emek but, I am just not terribly impressed with it, maybe the deadlywind valve makes all the difference but, by the time I am done with this classic mag I expect to get a much higher fire rate with it

Hey, the '90s called... they want your trigger technique back. 🙂

I've never actually seen someone fan a trigger like that, until now.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."
