Stainless Dye spyder barrel to M98 with Lapco

So for giggles I am trying to recreate an old teammates Tippmann 98 build. With that I got a 12” dye stainless steel barrel (spyder threads) and a lapco 98 to spyder adapter. The barrel finally arrived today and it will only go about 2-3 turns into the barrel adapter then it has that feel like it is seated all the way. Upon feeling inside the adapter there is a gap between the dye barrel and the bottom of the adapter. When I was inspecting the barrel there was an extra line/ ridge on it. Is it possible the reason it’s a 20+ year old Barrel that looks brand new is because it was faulty from the factory?

I took pictures quickly but didn’t have the flash on, I will take some in a few hours after I finish walking the dog but I do have zoomed the image from eBay and you can see the two lines

Very possible. Plus Spyder barrels seem to vary a bunch in the shank diameter.....I have ultralights that fit in older Spyders (fat striker) that don't fit my modern ones

I feel like it shouldn’t but this sounds like a job for a hand grinder and diamond blade! 😏🙃

Anyone know what the shank should be? I googled and found a lot about other barrel threads but not as much about spyder threads

Do you have another Spyder barrel handy to see if another will thread all the way in? Did you try it without the o ring to see if that helps? Did your teammates gun have the same problem and he never noticed or cared 😁?

Honestly I think most lower end paintball stuff either gets used once or not at all so it being in perfect condition isn’t surprising. It got chucked in the closet with the rest of the impulse buys

Oh he sold his gun 20 or more years ago, I just had a 98 custom as a loaner and was feeling like recreating his old gun. I have no spyder barrels other than the One

I added new pictures of the barrel and what it looks like when I put it in the adapter

I think you are fighting stacked tolerances of two manufacturers
