    Carter minibuzzard with slam changer

We were attending SPEW 2024 last weekend, and I was in the middle of frying eggs for breakfast. Fellow mcb member and camp mate, Handy, comes back from the vendor area and tells me that there are some rare carter markers for sale.

I asked another camp mate's girlfriend to please watch my eggs while I investigated things further. I instantly recognized the vendor, and knew he'd have several markers I coveted. He is also a member here, and known for his personal collection.

I was so stunned by the markers for sale if forgot to take pics! A gargoyle, a redux, a nasty typhoon, and so much more. He clarified the collection for sale belonged to another collector, and not from his personal inventory. I knew I wanted the mini buzzard the moment I laid eyes on it. I didn't even realize it was coming with both a rat attack quick change AND a slam changer with valve body!

The marker was purchased brand new, and was assembled just prior to the sale, so it definitely needed tuning and tweaking. Handy did an outstanding job of smoothing out the trigger pull and break while we hung out at camp.

I changed out the main spring and adjusted the hammer until she was shooting 290s, and added the stella XL barrel kit with whoosh tip. The stella XL system traps the insert between the barrel back and tip, so it does not slide out. No risk of the insert getting stuck on the bolt oring. Still need to adjust the plane of the sear screw for a softer break, but most definitely ready for regular stock class use.

I am guessing it was Paul selling off some of his stash? If so, I am even sadder I didn't make the effort to attend.

It was Paul, but he was selling on behalf of another collector whose name I do not recall.

Jimmydee, I did ask Paul about selling on mcb, but he shook his head laughed it off. Said he didnt want deal with the hassle. He still had the gargoyle, redux and other Unicorns when he left Saturday afternoon.

It was a very beautiful collection and knowing how much paintballedbackin88 was wanting another Carter, I had to go get him. There was a G&H M2020 I was tempted by, but I came home with a Duckslide Phantom with a DSP frame and Whoosh barrel. I'll have to get some pictures up soon.

Paul is a great guy! That collection he is selling is pretty rad. Cool to see a slam changer on a buzzard!

The slam changer, while rare, is a bit nerve wracking. There is no way to degass a full 12gram, and as psi drops, so does the tension on the spring loaded detent pin. The initial action was difficult to open without significant effort, so I backed out the retention pin a bit...too much. I was dry firing the marker to drain the powerlet, and when I fired shot #11 the powerlet shot out the trap door and hit me in the abd. It wasn't enough to cause injury, but it would have shattered glass had the grip bottom been pointed elsewhere.

The potential for injury to self or others is high, and one must be supremely confident to use the the slam changer in a game. Paul mentioned something about shattering his patio glass door when we talked about the slam changer, and now I understand. The rat attack is the safe and sane choice for stock class play.

This is one of the main reasons i have not pursued a slam changer. Paul had a beautiful Copper Duck for sale not too long ago.. But that slam changer scared me off! BBA rat attack is honestly a lot of fun for stock class play anyways.

I forgot to add that my hands were still covered with dry pancake batter when I absent-mindedly pawed at the rare collectibles like a fat kid in a candy store, and handled them without asking for Paul's permission.

My eyes grew wide and I remained silent when I noticed that I was leaving white powdered finger prints all over the pristine, dust black redux, and a few other markers. It was then that I made an offer on the minibuzzard, to draw his attention to more serious matters. Still not sure if Paul noticed...
