Well, just pulled the trigger on a really nice condition 12 volt revy with X-Board (whatever that means) on Ebay. Paid $41 shipped.

I also found a site that has brand new transparent blue shells, but I have to buy them individually. But still nice to have as an option. They are $10 per side.

Just be careful not to over tighten the shells and be careful at the feed neck that you don’t crank down to tight. Xboard revvy is going to work great for you.

Here's what I bought. Seller claims it is black, but the pictures look like its a dark transparent red.

I also ordered a couple PTP elbows. I have a smoke colored one, but discovered PTP offers transparent blue to match my gun.

Got the loader in. Looks nice considering its age.

The color is very dark, and when you shine a light through it, it looks redish purple, like a "black cherry" color.

i wonder if its a home-brew dye job, cause the color looks inconsistent in shade.

Regardless, I'm happy for the price I paid, and I can always get new shells if I dont like it.

Wow, just my luck. Was going through some stuff in my parents basement, and ran across a Tippmann 98 Custom box. This was my first gun, that I sold to my dad when I upgraded to a shocker SFT. He then later sold it many years ago.

I pulled out the box, and was confused as to why it was so heavy. Low and behold, I found an old Viewloader Revolution in it

I forgot I had bought this from my cousin way back when. It must not have been grabbed when my dad sold the 98 Custom.

The batteries looked fine when I pulled them out,, even after all these years. I thought for sure they would be no good. Flipped the switch and the dang thing works perfectly.

Also noticed inside the battery compartment, it says "X BOARD" up near the battery terminals.

Looks like I have a second Revolution now, though these shells are a little more beat than my other one. Still a cool find though.

Those are the "good" shells, I think.... I always forget which is which, but there was a batch back in the day that had very brittle plastic and cracked easily.

I had one from that batch and the hopper actually fell apart during a game.

Yep you can tell by the "eyeballs" in the viewloader logo. The later ones changed the logo so there weren't eyes over the VL and that's when the plastic got crappy. Good find!

That’s the good shell for sure that is the best one to get in terms of durability. They last forever. Nice find.

Those old shells(and lids) are pretty much indestructible. Nice find!

It almost looks like someone tried to dye those other shells black and it just wasn't black enough dye.

The clear shell take color quickly. It’s easy to go to dark and they look black. That looks a lot like a purple one I did Just a lil darker.

Is there anything i can do to help "clean up" the black one i found? Maybe hit it with a really fine sandpaper to help "buff out" those scratches?

Black shoe polish. Wipe a lil on it on and let it dry buff it off it will look brand new and stay that way.

Are the scratches deep or just rub marks?

, how bad are the new ones with the updated logo? I may have a line on some colored shell sets (red, green, blue, and smoke) with the updated logo.

Should I steer clear? Or are they okay to use? Don't want to waste my money on something that will break the first time I use it lol.

They are ok. Don’t over tighten the shell half’s, and don’t over tighten the feedneck. They really are one bad dive away from breaking and as they age they are only going to become more brittle. But if you go easy they work fine I used one for years and it lasted a long time before I broke it sliding into a bunker. I still have a left side blue shell that is good. The right side is what cracked on me at the feedneck. I have 1blue batt door and a bunch of red ones I picked up just to have.

So I guess the question is, is it worth it to get some of the newer shells, just to get the color I want? Or just run the old-school, more durable shells, and who cares what it looks like?

Little krylon fusion plastic paint you can make that black shell any color you want. It sticks pretty good to. You could have it Cerakoted if you really want to get crazy.

Or you could make a custom bounce cover that might look cool if you can find mouse pad material in the color you want.

Another option is plasti-dip spray, it's available in a bunch of colors now. Get bored with the color you can just peel it right off. Protects the plastic underneath too. Have to respray occasionally, but only takes a few minutes per coat to dry. You can even get gloss coatinngs, metallized coatings, all kinds of cool stuff. Arts and crafts stores usually have a better color/coating selection than hardware stores.

I bet you could adapt this super easy to work on a revvy.

Ginger Dynamics makes a bunch of covers I think you can order Custom ones. But they are good quality and fit really nice but they are on the pricy side.
