    Bob Long Victory Disassembly

Number 3 on my Bob Long phase is this custom lasered Bob Long Victory. Ambush Army was a local team that was sponsored by Bob Long. These markers apparently factory done with longer HPR and violent trigger. Thought to be about 14 of such markers made.

A push of a button and the back piece pops up and the bolt engine slide right out.

And with the bolt engine the body is nice and empty:

Now it’s my understanding you could drop in different bolt systems for these markers. There was the VCOM engine, the Supercharged Engine and VIS engine. I’d assume I have the stock engine in this marker, which I think is the Supercharged engine.

I’ll return to the engine with I start its disassembly and replacing the o-rings. Before that happens though I’ll jump back down to the trigger frame.

oh goodie, the battery was never removed for this marker. Never a good sign. Please, please take your batteries out!

Oh fun, it’s more than a 15 year old battery.

After removed, we can see the Virtue Board.

It’s has a two part board with removeable screen. The screen is dead and the board makes some noises when a battery is plugged in. Been having trouble with Duracell batteries and Bob Long boards so may try a different brand and see if the board lives.

And now I can disconnect the various wires and disconnect the frame from the body.

That looks like the original short HPR, not the long one.

I believe the Supercharged engine has a red bolt and the VIS engine is the silver you have.

I believe the Virtue OLED boards still have the multi color LED that makes them usable without a screen, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for the info! I had posted on a local Facebook group for info on the marker and went by what the person had said. I am not familiar with the various Bob Long models at all.

Definitely the stock HPR housing. More than likely a standard supercharger bolt given everything else on it. Easy way to tell is extend the bolt. If it has a quick disconnect system then it’s the supercharger engine (which is lucky because early victories first came with the proficiency engine which is smoother but worse efficiency)… if it’s threaded then it’s a VIS engine. The red bolt heads are VCOM engines. Any of the poppet engines (proficiency, supercharger, vis) you need to be careful with the delrin donut during disassembly.. after cleaning DO NOT PUT LUBE ON THE DONUT. You can lube up the rest of the system without fuss.

oled screens are known to burn out, you very likely still have an OK board, the screen is just dead. There’s a few work arounds floating around…. Most popular one is a simple jumper system with an LED instead of just guessing if it’s on or not.

I’m wondering if the HPR housing got changed. There’s no lasering on it looks like the pattern would have extended onto it.

After some bad news about the MTAC’s bolt, but finding out the Victory uses the same bolt, I got the MTAC shooting. MTAC thread: https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/p...ac-disassembly

So with the MTAC functional, I grabbed the bolt and put it in the Victory to see if we could get it working. First battery I got no response from the board. Swapped batteries and turned on to see this:

A live screen! Certainly makes life easier, especially as I wasn’t sure the board even worked.

Tossed the Victory back together, squeezed barely 1k into my 13/3000 tank and ripped a few balls before running out of air. But everything was working!

The down side is it’s going to be pretty hard to find a replacement bolt tip and replacement engines aren’t easy or cheap to find. That’s a problem for another day though.

I did see this in my search, but the bolt is out of stock. Only the bolt for one of the different engines is available and doesn't seem to be compatible. May have to get creative with the bolt I have.

And a shot of the engine, which definitely needed a good cleaning:
