I started my patina experiment today. I used some of the brass tubing off of JeeperCreeper wind chime that I won in last years walzmas. I didn't bother polishing or masking, but just wanted to compare the results of spraying the ammonia based acid vs sponging it on. I applied it around 2:30 pm, instructions say to wait 24 hours for the results before the sealing process. I'll snag some photos when I got home from the bar, but things look promising so far.

Make sure you neutralize acids afterwards, they can eat away at the tin in the solder joint

That's great insight! Is that something you want to do immediately or is it after the patina sets in but before sealing it?

The top tube was sprayed whereas the bottom one was sponged on. I suspected that sponging would work better than spraying, but figured I'd test it out. It seems like the application worked better with the sponge, and I like the pattern of it more. I'm gonna give them them a bit over 24 hours then seal the sponged one and go town on polishing the patina off the other one for the next round of testing.
