Sheridan Cartridge Valves

Hello All,
I picked up my first PMI Sheridans (some P & K Series) in 1988 or so and haven't given them any love in a long time. I'm not as familiar with the cartridge valves as I am with the component valves and I recently picked up a PA Series P-68 SC "body" only - no internals that I want to use for a build project but I haven't been able to find any complete cartridge valves for it. I tried ebay, bocci and jgairguns but didn't see anything available.

I'm not as familiar with the cartridge valves as I am with the component valves. Are there other sources for these complete cartridge valves?

I think buying the complete valve assembly will be a bit difficult to find (as you already know) but you may be able to get pieces from multiple people on here to complete it. You could email Bacci on his site to ask him. Sometimes he has items on hand that’s not listed on his website.

Yeah, I reached out to Bacci but was wondering if there were any other sites I should try while I'm waiting for his reply.

Also, any airsmiths out there that have made any?

You pretty much covered all the bases. Cart valves are the go to for many custom builders, so empty bodies are pretty available, but the valves are getting rare.

Id say your best bet will be to get a pa series pgp, and put its gut in to the p68 body.

you could reach out to G&L customs. I know nothing of them, but they have advertised a custom valve they manufacturer for their rifles, called the Magnum valve. I dont think they offer a drop in magnum valve for sheridans, but its probably worth the ask.

I had Bret tune my Lever Action Ian built and it shoots amazing now with his valve, bolt and trigger. What a difference in efficiency and it has a much nicer lighter smoother action.

I sent my marker in to G&H to have it installed. He tailored his parts to my build and did a great job.

Eventually, I’m gonna buy one of his full builds. I have shot a few of them and they are really nice.

However Im sure if you post up in the WTB section you could likely find one here fairly easily.

I'm actually surprised nobody with a lathe has built new cartridge valves. It's an incredibly simple design and made out of brass so very easy to work.

The time to machine all the components to make one would probably price the finished result out of reach for the hobbyists wanting them.

Jake and I faced this problem a couple years ago when the cartridge valve supplies dried up and we decided if we were going to make a valve, how could we make it better. That's how our Magnum valve evolved and we are very happy with the results. We have a very nice lathe and Jake is not an amateur machinist.

The only way to buy one is in a build though, no? So for those of us tinkering in a garage, they're still out of reach.

Jordan we have been taking in some rebuild work in between full builds. Rebuilds manly consist of valve replacement along with tuning to match. No matter which platform we are achieving an easy 30 shots plus per 12 gram in a much broader band of ambient temps than a Sheridan valve. In comparison a tuned cartridge valve will only achieve 20-25 shots per 12 gram in a narrow band of ambient temps.

It's not about charging for work, the valve is longer than the standard cartridge valve and we modify the body to accept the valve. If we just sell the valve, there is no way to make sure it is done properly. We remove the component valve, drill open the transfer port, and modify or replace the 12 gram plug. We also do other things as people wish. We do rebuilds, but we would rather make a complete gun. Much more fun to do.

Yup, I can appreciate the reservations based on those reasons, but still can't afford a build. 🙂

I do, and have done, all those things to builds in the past. I'd love to buy a valve off you guys if you're willing to sell one but understand if you'd say no based on those reasons.
