    Shocker sport limits

So I am trying to determine a few limits and I am getting a bit of conflicting information online about at what point shoot down happens on the Shocker Sport.

I used to have one and I had it set to max speed in full auto which should have been 11.25 bps and I didn’t notice any but some people online have said it gets shootdown at 8bps and others say as high as 14. Has anyone actually tested this and proven what the limits are?

From what I understand, Shocker Sports can't physically fire faster than 12 bps - the internals can't move any faster than that.

If you're getting shootdown, it's a mechanical or tuning problem somewhere... MaxFlos can support much higher ROF than that. Usually it's a poorly maintained reg causing issues or someone was playing with switches they don't understand.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

According to ZDS they were limited to 13 bps Shocker Sport Marker Tech [ZDSPB Tech]

I read that too, but as best I can tell he was saying the LS board is limited to 13 and the DS board 11.25 I mean more the physical limits. The way it works internally there is a chamber in the valve and that has to fill fully before the fire piston is engaged or velocity will be lower, so really it is a question of how quickly that can fill, or I suppose how fast the ram can cycle for the bolt but, I assume it isn't the limiting factor. I want to make a new board for the shocker, I already have a bit of experience doing this but, I don't really know what the limits are or in fact how to test them. The only way I know of to see shootdown is to see the balls go less far but, I imagine it has to be real bad before I could tell, really a machine needs to test it, like a chrono with memory that can recall shots.

have you tried talking to anyone that has a Scifi board for the Shocker Sport ? see what their experiences are if you reach out on the facebook page I'm sure you will get someone to answer. I got rid of my S/F Sport when the SFT came out.

Why make a board when Sci-fi makes the best one ever?

Well that says out of stock and I assume demand for this sort of thing is so low after the initial run sells out there won’t be another, I would love to be wrong though. If it were to come back into stock however I could use the BASIC Stamp I have on other projects.

still if I do it myself and I have any memory left over after writing the firing modes I could add a screen to it and other things I couldn’t get otherwise. if I buy a board I would have to modify it to relocate the switch to the grip frame, though that would still be far simpler than making my own from scratch.

It's a one man operation, so inventory is always revolving. The guy's name is Brandon. He's always in Facebook. His page is "Sci-fi Board". It's so vague it's funny. People are frequently posting their own science fiction stories not realizing it's a paintball board, and not a message board.

If you modify a board, you're basically stuck with eBlade or Excalibur boards, as you need to ability to power two solenoids.

There is also a new morlock board. There’s good info over in the thread, including info straight for the designer himself.

Over on the Tinker's Guild (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thetinkersguild/morlock-mkii-t49353.html), prompted by a fellow trying to resurrect an old Sandridge E-Cocker (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thetinkersguild/sandridge-cockers-t49314.html), there's been a bit of fresh interest in putting together a new

I was unaware of this, heck the cost of the board is incredibly reasonable too, I don't mind doing a bit of custom work to fit it all into a marker, since I tend to really customize things anyways (I just bought an A4 frame I want to use in a Shocker for example). Thanks, I had no idea about this one!

Since it doesn’t appear the hard limits of shootdown are around, does anyone know a good way to test?

I just bought a shocker sport, and I will have a morlock board when parts come in and even in the meantime I have the parts to test with my own micro controller.

the issue then is, I know I can test the velocity with a normal chrono but is there a way to get a reading on a string of paintballs at high speed? I can always make it faster and faster till I notice it dropping off, but I would prefer to have data so I could share it with anyone else who is curious and finally figure out where shootdown happens and at what pressures.

Place a microphone near the barrel and record the shots. Then, in a free audio editor like Audacity or something, you can count the peaks within a one second timespan.

That's what we did in PbN back during the BPS wars. Might not be the most convenient for tuning and adjusting on the spot, but it does work.

Any way to measure the velocity by the sound of that audio? That is the problem I am trying to solve I mean I can probably set it to cycle 20 times a second but on the only chrono I only see the very last shots velocity and when you shoot a bunch it changes from velocity to bps. So I have sort of a heisenberg uncertainty principle of chronos I can tell how fast it is going or how fast it is shooting but not both at the same time.

Oh, my bad. I must've misread you post.

If you have some land, you can chrono at different velocities, measure the distance, and setup cones or something as markers. So when you fire, as soon as the paintballs begin dropping at the 260fps distance, you'll know that's your ballpark. Might be enough for basic testing.

Interesting, I have been thinking about electrical solutions but, thinking about what you suggest, I could probably vice the marker down, take known readings every 5 fps. Maybe setup a bunch of flat long pieces of aluminum and a high speed camera. I do have an old low resolution camera that can do 1000 frames a second, that should be enough to see with reasonable clarity which shot hit which piece of aluminum, and in what order. I could then graph that out and have a result with solid data of how much shootdown and at what firerates. It does seem like alot of work, but I do like to science stuff. I can just toss out any ball that veers to one side or the other as that is a result of factors aside from the marker. This might be workable!

So I have hit an unexpected snag, I can’t seem to get over about 5 shots a second without shootdown lol which can’t be right so maybe people here can help me figure out where I am going wrong.

so I tried a few dwell settings on the fire piston and it seems there is an increase in velocity till around the 20ish MS range then I don’t get any more out of it. This tells me the dump chamber itself empties relatively quickly. The ram seems to cycle pretty well at about 40ms dwell time.

I tried from 10ms/40ms all the way to 50ms/50ms and no dice when trying to shoot 10bps the balls just roll out of the barrel. Shooting just a couple of shots per second velocity is excellent and consistent even.

this makes me think this isn’t a morlock issue, perhaps this is a max-flo issue? Is there an easy way for me to test this? Also can I even do a full rebuild on these old school maxflo regs?

Have you rebuilt your regulator recently? I've had crazy recharge problems due to bad piston seats before.

The previous owner claims to have rebuilt it but, I don’t really know for sure. I picked this one up for this project primarily. I can’t think of what else could be causing such massive shootdown.

Did you establish a baseline by trying the gun out with the stock board first?

I have a feeling there may be a setting that is being overlooked... it's possible there is a mechanical issue, so verifying it works in stock form may be a good start.
