I'm looking at picking up a gen 1 eNMEy but I want to make sure it has the updated valve with the reinforcing plate. The owner isn't willing to drop the frame to have a look. Is there another way to tell if it has the updated valve (ie serial number etc)?
How to Tell if an eNMEy has the Updated Valve?

The HE valve has a red short hose. The Pro model came with a stainless QEV it i remember correctly. So no. You cant tell unless you look at the valve.
If it has the gen1 older style body it mostly likely has the gen 1 valve, but those first ones died out more than they should have so it could have been replaced with a HE valve.

I'm not talking about the HE valve. That came with a QEV and apparently different flow characteristics to allow it to retain a low bolt force. It came on the eNMEy pro but was available as an upgrade as well.
The original valve was all plastic. They updated the original valve with a metal reinforcing plate to help with cracking issues but was otherwise identical to the original valve. This is called the HD valve and came stock on later gen 1 eNMEys and all gen 2 eNMEys. This is what I'm wondering about. Whether there is a known SN, or other external identifier that denotes when they started coming with the HD valve.

On a Gen1 body, the only way to tell is to separate the frame and put eyeballs on the reinforcing plate.

The original eNMEy required tools to remove the bolt and had the brittle plastic body and grips that didn’t have finger grooves. This version had the exploding valve.
the “gen 1.5” eNMEy had the toolless bolt removal and newer bolt/can setup, finger grooves on the grips, but still the cheapo brittle plastic body. These had the reinforced HD valves that operated like the original valves sans explosions.
the “gen 2” eNMEy had the toolless bolt removal and updated bolt/can (later models had a knurled knob instead of the flat tab for unscrewing the back cap), finger grooves on the grips, updated tougher nylon shells. The Pro version came with the HE valve while the base version came with the HD valve. Some people mentioned the base version was sold with a HE valve and plastic qev.
That’s my understanding anyway. I’ve seen a gen 2 body on an eNMEy that had no qev, so I may be wrong. It could have been a gen 1.5 eNMEy with an updated shell, or maybe just a base version.
From what I can tell, the only way to know is to drop the frame and look for a qev and the difference in the rocket pin. The HD valve rocket has a shorter pin section on the end, and the HE valve had longer one.
I have a gen 1.5 eNMEy and would be happy to show you what’s under the hood.Last edited by lhamilton1807; 11-09-2025, 10:42 AM.Originally posted by Chuck E Ducky:
