    Bill C21

This bill has not yet passed. The handgun transfer "freeze" implemented the other day was enacted by way of Order in Council to my knowledge. Paintball and airsoft are safe, for now...

Per the release by Public Safety Canada (https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/c...c21-en.aspx#s4) "Mid-velocity airguns that do not closely resemble a real firearm would be unaffected [by Bill C21]." Notice the word "closely" is doing some heavy lifting here. Unless the word "closely" or similar words are specifically defined in the bill (which I doubt) take that to mean a police officer has the discretion to make that call. It could be applied to a tacticool Tippmann, a shiny new Shocker, or even that wood stocked Sheridan you have. Per a member of the airsoft community who has spoken with the Minister of Public Safety's staff; magfed paintball is in the crosshairs for sure.

Please take this seriously. Many proshops and fields rely on airsoft and magfed to break even. Just because this may not directly affect you doesn't mean you're safe. Write the Public Safety and National Security committee and your MP to tell them you disagree with the bill. Writing them regarding this does not negatively affect the party of your choosing - even if they support the content of the bill. Tell them what about it you agree and disagree with.

The full text of the bill can be found here: https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/e.../first-reading

The CCFR has a lot of information on the topic.

As much as I hope it doesn't pass, I have no doubt that it will become law. The LPC/NDP coalition will make it so.

I'm not a gun owner, but it is obvious to anyone who looks a little closer that the .gov is using national tragedies perpetrated by unlawful gun owners to push a feel-good policy through.

IMHO the biggest issue is most Canadians don't actually know anything about the existing gun laws and just assume more = good.

I could go on, but I suspect this thread will be taken down.

Anyways, write your MP, educate yourself so that you can educate others.

I see that the "no politics" rule is really being enforced these days.

It's a fine line when it involves paintball, I guess.

As nice as that would be, this is a paintball related issue that can only be devoid of politics to an extent. I purposely avoided finger pointing in my opening post.

On a positive note that I forgot to mention; the NDP and Bloc do seem to be willing to make some sort of compromise. Some ideas that have been floated are:

          1. A federal minimum 18 years of age to purchase (this is already law in Ontario).

          2. A UK style pseudo licencing system where you must be part of a club/national organization to own (this would hurt growth, but I guess would weed out those who aren't dedicated?).

          3. California style orange tape coming out the wazoo (what's to stop people with real firearms from doing this?).
