You read it right! After 35 years your hording tendencies can finally be justified with a healthy "I told you so"!
3D printed in 100% solid ASA ( a slightly more UV resistant and flexible ABS) with a clear acrylic window, these are a much better version of the original
$25 + $10 shipping gets you the lid, along with an extra latch, nut and bolt. Shipped USPS priority flat rate anywhere in the US. not sure on international cost, but I will do it if you ask nice!
I have 5 ready to go. more coming based on demand - i will always communicate an ETA if I don't have them ready. if demand is high i may need to send out for laser cutting the clear acrylic to speed things up.
But... you might ask....
Why base it on the original piece of crap?-other than the incredibly poor choice in plastics, the OG lid worked fine for quite awhile, and having a blueprint helped - it still took about 15 test prints and allot of CAD time to replicate it, and then add some improvments, like a replaceable latch.
The latch will just break - 3D printing is weak! Not this one - the latches are separate pieces and replaceable, but I have yet to break one except to test them. They are printed on their sides to take advantage of filament alignment along the long axis - they don't really break, so much as bend back on themselves. As to the rest of the piece - printing is done on a Bambu H2D with a fully enclosed and heated chamber - the layer bonding may as well be solid. I've bent, flexed and broken or tried to break every part a couple times now and they bend - allot - before any real breaking happens.
Field tested! I've had mine out about 5 days now on my autococker, and have had no issues, save for not closing the lid all the way a couple times - thats just nostalgic though, so I'm pretty confident it's a solid product.
Can I just get the file and print my own? Not at this time. I may sell the file at a lower price at some point.
