Do you have a side hustle?

Just looking at the jobs thread made me wonder what side projects people have.

My brother just started a cosmetics company https://bounceskin.co/ , and just sold his first batch of skincare. What the hell made him get into that I have no idea, but it's going well. He's doing it after hours and on weekends.

My brother-in-law recently started in insurance broking at https://www.policywise.co.nz/ . He's gone from just working by himself to hiring about six staff in about two years, and is making bank.

My other brother in law bought a mortgage broker franchise. He's doing well enough, though not like the above.

My sister runs an etsy store that's doing well selling knick knacks for moms.

And I'm starting to feel left out! I want my 80 foot yacht dammit.

What do you guys do as either side hustles or businesses you've started yourself?

Do you make the difference between "side hustle" and "gig"?

Ive had a few things while my job really sucked, then got a decent job ... But now my "side hustle" is going back to school for my Bachelor (EE) ... Does that count ? :P

To survive in NY (and northeast in general) you need two jobs with a little bit of fraud on the side

It’s not what you make it’s what you can hide.

I sell honey and bees. It’s a fun hobby but you’ll have a hard time buying a dingy for your yacht with the money from that. This is my 6th year bee keeping and if I don’t buy any more equipment or supplies this year it will be my first where I make any sort of profit. Overall I’m way in the hole with this venture.

Yes you can buy bees through the mail. I would recommend looking locally first. If you can’t find any locally then you can buy package bees and have them shipped.

I've had more than I can count at this point. None have ever really panned out to be anything, but it's good to have hope.

I saw that apparently it's normal to fail at 11 startup ideas before you find one that makes money.

        I think I'm on 6.

Hi Jordan, I am. Just on Ebay at the moment (although anyone here is welcome to reach out). I may drop that whole thing in 2022, haven't made a final decision yet.

Nah, I plan working until the morning of my funeral.

All joking aside, I could probably do a second job if I didn't have kids, but they're more important to me than making an extra buck right now. Gimme a few years, they'll be out of highschool and maybe not so interested in their old man anymore.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

So much this. I value the little free time I have with them, that my hustles are just odd jobs once in a while.

I'm a driver. You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you're on your own.
      I can haz feedback?

Paintball is my current side hustle. Not making huge bank, but have made over 2k this year mostly on Tippmanns etc. Most guns are in the $300 or less price range, so not talking big money items. Spent a decent amount on my current build (but damn are those ID parts nice!) but currently sitting at $1,400 CAD profit after all is said and done.

Buy and resell? I used to do this when the market was strong back in 04 to 07. Can't make hardly anything these days from it.

Yes, buying, fixing and re-selling. Vast majority is in my local market, so large craigslist packages and guns that have been sitting for years. Quick rebuild, test it out to make sure it works and off to a new owner. If it's something more interesting I will sell on here or Kijiji of all places. My last cocker and the Tippmann C3 sold on Kijiji for good prices. I've stockpiled a large amount of parts so usually only costs me time to fix things. If I had to order in parts (rarely happens) it really kills any profitability due to high shipping costs. We no longer have any local paintball stores either.

I sell used cars, own and manage income housing as well as buying and selling investment properties.

Im setting up a property now for Air B&B going to see how well it works vs long term rentals. My brother in law made my yearly profit in 6 months on his B&B just renting a room with a bathroom. So I’m going to give it a go see how it works out.

I sell coffee from a too small roaster to be efficient.
          My #1 buyer moved city
But that also make my own coffee as fresh as it can be and cheap.

I make cold brew coffee by the half gallon and sell it to friends and family. I was more active 2 years ago when I was broke and needed extra money but now that I have a better job I don't need the money. It also became a hassle because people weren't returning my containers and I had a few "friends" not pay me right away and I had to ask them several times.

I also used to detail cars on the side but that also became more of a hassle than it was worth but I'll still do it every once in a while if a good friend or family member asks.

I'm in the process of setting up a side hustle. Buying vintage fridges and converting them to kegerators. Then planning on renting them out for events. I thought about selling them, but the supply is limited so I need to hold onto the good ones that I have.

I may get into one by default, but not really. I like to think Im paid well enough to not require me to work im my free time.

I am a dealer for Jerseys clinic, but I usually just sell for msrp, and let either the customer. R JC keep my potential profits because Im in it for the networking, and helping people.

I also could say Ive made some money buying stuff of craigslist and out of garage sales, but thats more a thrill of the hunt than anything.

Now, Im trying to get a rocket project going mainly so my buddies and I dont have to worry about re collecting our lost rockets as much, but if I can yet the process down well enough, I may start selling law ammo to the community as a side gig, but honestly for the amount of precision I have to maintain to make the foam mix right, I doubt Im going to get production efficient enough to achieve that lofty goal.

I’ve got a cousin making pretty good $$ repairing broken lawn mowers and selling them. He recently started offering mobile mower repair and he books his week out fast with appointments.
