    Soda Stream type machines

Anyone have experience with these? Yes I know food-grade Co2 is needed. My wife and I are considering getting one for Christmas. Do any new machines allow for the use of bulk fill tanks? It looks like SodaStream has switched to single use tanks? Is that the case? Do these machines allow require specialized bottles to fill?

I would love something we can add some syrup and water into a random cup, set onto the machine, and carbonate. Can it be that simple? On a quick search, it seems like everything is special bottles and single use Co2 canisters.

We love ours and use it daily - family of four - saves some bucks . The Soda Stream brand has changed to a bottle that I'm not sure you can get a fill adapter for now, but I could be wrong. we switched to the DrinkMate brand on amazon, which still uses the older style bottle. being a paintballer and a welder I've had bulk fill tanks for years. I bought an adapter from palmers and never looked back.

    some tips -
    • Buy 2-3 of the water bottles, fill them up and stick em' in the fridge - cold water fizz's 1000x better than warm water.
    • We don't do the syrups much, but they work fine. my boys like to fizz the water and add cranberry or apple juice more.
    • the Drinkmate is also kinda cool because you can fizz things like juices etc. - soda stream cannot
    • filling the tanks is a bit of a trick - I freeze mine. There's some sort of valve that closes if you try to fill them to fast and you have to un-screw it and try again.
    • In CA all the welding supply places fill any Co2 tank with food grade Co2 - I think this is pretty common across the US but check.
    • is it really cheaper? over time I think so - even if you have to invest in a fill station and do the initial buy in on the bulk tank. it's something like $14 per exchange for a 16oz C02 bottle if I remember right, and something like 2 bucks per LB bulk not including the initial buy in
    • just remember - get the dip tube bulk tank!!!

Drcemento thanks for the info! How can the soda stream fizz water but not juice, but the DrinkMate can?

We are a family of 6 so buying a bunch of proprietary bottles is a bit much. I actually don’t care too much for it. The wife and kids would use it mostly. I can live without pop/soda and can’t stand sparkling water.

I have no Idea why the soda streams cannot - possibly a relief valve type thing. I know when they first came out the first thing we did was try to fizz everything, and anything that was not water or their syrups would just explode - huge mess. sodaStream does everything it can to make you only buy their products
the drinkmate bottles are like 8 bucks each on amazon, and well worth having if you plan to use it allot

I'd say its worth it if you are really trying to cut down on buying canned soda and bubbly water for the family. otherwise it's another counter ornament taking up to much space./

One fun side note to anyone who likes any alchohic beverage requiring a slash of Soda water - you can carbonate the crap out of one of these bottles, especially if they are cold, adding way more fiz to your drink than say, a canned soda water. I think i need a whiskey and soda!

Me and my partner bought some used soda stream 1L model. It's been a game changer along with those Mio flavor things to basically almost completely cut out soda from my life, as well as saving money from constantly buying seltzer at the store. Apparently you can refill the CO2 bottles with dry ice to save even more money.

Check dry ice price in your area before

For me it's a lit cheaper to fill a 20# co2 bottle at a store that refill co2 fire extinguisher and buy a cheap fill station for soda stream on Amazon.

We fill soda stream bottles from a 5lb CO2 tank. I just needed to make a fill cap. Bought a metal soda stream cap, drilled a hole and attached a standard 1/4" ball lock bulkhead. Tank, regulator setup and hose were off the shelf from brewing supply store. My local gas/welding shop fills food grade CO2 for $13.

So for those with the soda streams, can you carbonate juices and other drinks or are you stuck using water and syrups?

Does anyone use the Ninja machine?

As far as I've read online, it seems you can only use water without a pretty likely risk of gumming it up, and I suspect they are not easily cleaned. If it's the same Ninja brand that makes the air fryer unit we use, they make quality stuff and I wouldn't think twice about going with them.

If you want to carbonate juice or other harder to carbonate liquid you need to use a carbonation cap that will keep the pressure constant for a longer period. Soda stream will work mostly with syrups.

If you plan on making your own beer one day, it's the same equipment.

Soda stream is the same thing but in a nicer package.

So let me get this straight… you can bypass the fancy machines and just get a carbonation cap, regulator, co2 source and mating bottles to the carb cap?

Soda stream is just a fancy co2 bottle cover with a reg, tube and valve.

Soda stream won't let you adjust the pressure or increase the carbonation time

Also, the colder your liquid is the better the carbonation will be

I've heard that the Drinkmate will carbonate pretty much anything. I briefly looked into it but never bought one.

I see lots of adaptors to fill the soda stream bottles, are there any that would allow me to use a 20oz on a short remote?

Love my soda streams. I've had at least one since they came out. I keep one at home and one at work.
I have noticed since Pepsi took over they are getting very hard to find around here. I'm at the point where getting CO2 refills is becoming problematic. And the good flavors are non existent now like the energy drink. I suspect they are in trouble, at least at retailers around here.

So I used to sell whole house water treatment systems. When we would do local affairs and events, I would also sell the original sodastreams. The number one thing I can suggest is using filtered water. This will make your SodaStream sodas and whatever you carbonate taste so much better.. I would do a side by side comparison at the events. Tap water compared to filtered water using the SodaStream... Palmer's used to sell the adapters for the CO2 tanks that were proprietary to the soda streams. Not sure if he has any in stock or not anymore. I have a big old case of different ones somewhere in my garage. I just not sure what they fit,I never really took the time to do any research.
