Giant Big Game 44, Splat-Tag (Hudson WI) June 4th

Spring GBG is happening soon. Who's going?

Place: Splat-Tag, Hudson, WI (near the Twin Cities)
    Date: Sunday, June 4th

Other details, pricing & the game map found here: https://www.giantpaintballgame.com/

For travelers I suggest that you camp out the night before (free camping at the field Saturday night). We are usually allowed to register that night to avoid the rush on game day.

(Details shamelessly stolen from glaman5266 post from last year)

Question: Does anyone play the day before? Or is the field closed? I might travel up Friday night and camp nearby that night before moving to the field if there's play on Saturday. Otherwise I supposed I could always swing by Vintage on Saturday.

People usually play Saturday all day, and or night games Saturday night. Though admission for Friday will be considered a separate open play, and the paint purchased Friday night will likely be different so you'd have to be smart with paint buying for Friday if you aren't a regular.

There are usually a ton of sponsored peeps out there,so a group open play paint buy can be had.

Fair warning for Saturday. Even though its not necessanecessarily fueld condoned, people typically ger pretty hammered Saturday night. There has been a bus service to willow river saloon up the road, that comes back at bar close. I used to love the drinking aspect, but now a days I try to get to sleep before that bus gets back or they will keep me up all night.

I live an hour from the field, and I can try to accommodate someone in need of a bed if need be, but Ill likely be at the field saturday early afternoon.

Thanks BrickHaus for the deeper info! Knowing that, I'll probably just drive up Saturday morning, play during the day, and camp Saturday night. I'm staying the weekend with my parents in the Stevens Point area, so that shortens my drive significantly.

Depending on weather I may participate a bit in the alcohol activities, but more likely I'll just have a single beer and knock out for the night.

          Hah.

If you want to go up Friday night Willow River state campground is just a few miles away. I used to stay there either the Friday before or Sunday night after the game if I didn't feel like driving. A long drive home is murder after playing GBG.

Last year's spring game they didn't have night games, I believe due to staffing. Wasn't too pleased with that after I splurged on paint for that purpose. Seems hit/miss on the occasions I go out there.

If you're going to stay in Point Sunday night after the game maybe we can carpool. I'm 30mins south of Point. I drive to Marshfield & meet up with a buddy (the guy I came to ICPL with) & we carpool. I can run it by him if you want to save on gas. Though we usually go Saturday morning.

Looks like pre-registration is open and Splat-Tag has a new website for the game: https://www.giantpaintballgame.com/

Do we have a side we're planning on playing for? My Carter's Commandos jersey is blue.

            Other 1st timer questions:
            1) What's the food situation on game day? Vendors common or should I pack some sandwiches?
            2) Are there usually equimpent vendors? Eg/ Team Tags, custom apparel, etc
            3) Preferred paint? Is the "tournament" paint worth the cost?

Yes, sponsored players can try to stick to a side, but in the event out of towners over roll one side, we can all be flipped to either side for balancing.

Last year I was going to run blue as thats what the smaller mcb crows was. I ended up getting asked to be XO for red on game day, so I had to play against the mcb squad.

Im not on facebook, who are the generals? That may give me info to help decide.

              1. There is usually a food truck, but with the one hour lunch break, its usually slammed at lunch time. Best to get shot out a half hour before the half and go order if you plan on utilizing that.

Sponsored players often bring a ton of food and are willing to share for 5or 10 bucks buy in.

I prefer to bring a small lunch and come off the field before the lunch. Eat, paint up, and hydrate. That way I can kick it most of the lunch break, and Im on field on the second half buzzer (having the most bodies on field at that 2nd half start can make or break the game). If you guys want, we can plan a mcb grill up, and I can see about bringing my camp grill, or my full size too.

              2. Splat tag will have some items behind the counter like lenses and such. C.c. military surplus is usually there with a bunch of gear. Smokes, and other last minute purchases you may need. In years past they have had other vendors and or hydro testers on site.

              3. You will get a different answer from everyone, and unfortunately we wont really know which is nice until Saturday night. Darrin usually orders fresh pallets for the event so its a total mystery. I typically go with field, as the brush is thick at splat tag, so having your ball hold up as it cuts q few daisies is helpful. But the field grade can get hella bouncy at times too. Ive had a ton of success with the tourney paint, but every once in a while its brittle af and I cant shoot it.

Id say if you are pre buying, lean towards tourney. He typically runs GI so itll be evil or marbs for the high grade likely.

Good to know about the sides. I haven't seen anything on facebook about generals.

I'll probably just pack some light sundries for food and maybe just hold off on preording paint.

We get assigned a team the morning of the game. They try to balance the sponsored team on both sides evenly.

Finishing up on pre-reg... 3 (4 if we are including Zinger ) Pandas in to hang out with Woodland Security. Registration shows you can pick your side. I'm assuming we are all on red, like normal?

The sponsored teams are usually split up the night before or the day of to make sure the game isn’t lopsided. We don’t usually know what side we are on until then.

Zinger!!! Aww man! Taking your life into the lords hands... though a mixed party of people on both sides can be fun.

Haha. Im a one man team, so they let me pick a side more lenient than Security, is red the mcb team?

I was at Splat Tag last week and they changed a bunch! For those of you who were there last year. They changed that huge dogleg by yellow base. They removed the chrono tent and the field will play different there now.

Im pretty jazzed for this one. I dunno what to bring for shooters though.. i just have so many I want to shoot, but I can realistically only shoot a couple.

Lol, probably only going to play half the day anyways, spend the rest of the day taking photos and video.

              Just registered for red team.

If the weather is rainy I’ll probably shoot my Gmek, if it’s nice/not storming I may use an E-Orracle.

I think they probably changed it.. darrin wont listen to us when literally everyone says final battles suck.

They wouldn't bother me if it was a final 2x point super mission for the last half hour that was fluid with the game half, but to leave the field a second time, pod back up, and go back in just takes the steam out of it for me. Furthermore being sponsored player. I can save my gbg paint and bring it back next weekend.

Well it was a slap stick fight in death valley last year. Maybe it'll be something cooler this year.

Boomer and I put in some hard work on the tank. It's in tip top shape. My new fury launcher is all sorted out and ready to rock. I'm excited. The GF is camping out with me. This will be her first paintball experience, so be gentle. She's not playing. Just coming to see the s--t show.
