    Midblocking an Illusion

    What do you all think?

I love these things, finally got my hands on a beater, and hate backblocks.

Any ideas on how to make it look good? And don't worry, it's just plain black. Not a Shatner or anything.

If I hadn't already seen the shape of the gun you bought I would fly to where you are at and deliver a strongly worded dialogue about destroying a classic.

IDK man you seem to have access to machine tools and the know-how on how to run them. Maybe chop the back block in half and use the upper portion for the sled. The delrin front part of the bolt is just held on by a roll pin so cutting the rear half of the bolt down shouldn't be an issue. The hammer connection would be tricky and you would need to put a stud in the sled and cut a groove in the hammer to link them. The pump rods are the easiest part. Just cut the fronts shorter and use a mill to cut new grooves for the set screws in the pump handle to grab them.

I had thought of a proper midblock, but using the backblock to make something akin to a PTP Micro is sounding good. I'll have to check on the position of the tribal milling.

Oddly, this one has a solid Delrin bolt.

I still recall a member here (I won't post his name) midblocking a Jackal RDL because no one would sell him a matching backblock. It came out well, IIRC.

An Impulse bolt should work too from what I remember. It's very close to the bolt in a Sentinel and is vertical pin which is nice for mid blocking as you can just run a hole vertically down through the sled into the hammer. The tail can be cut off as it's just extra material. LMK if you want to try it, I have one that came with my Sentinel kicking around.

Turns out it might be complicated. The pump rods are so low, cutting straight across would expose to top of the hammer. Gonna have to spend some real CAD time on this while I can.

Send it to Angry Antle have him cut it into something unique. They make real nice SC markers. My vote goes for Mill the top flat for a SC feed and fast back it.
