    Dry firing a Carter Duck

Just a question for Duck owners. Does your Duck engage the bolt to the hammer when you pump without an active 12g? Thus allowing you to dry fire when you pull the trigger?

My Phantoms do not allow me to dry fire without air going through a valve. Although there have been instances when I could pump a Phantom against the floor to engage the bolt and hammer.

I only ask because I enjoy being able to dry fire any paintball marker without air. The Duck I have easily does this like a standard Sheridan style marker.

Do all Carter Machine markers do this?

It depends on the strength of the valve spring in any Nelson style gun. Put a stiffer spring in the phantom and it will cock without air, put a lighter one in the Carter and it will not. Obviously this will affect fps and efficiency numbers too.

none of my nelson pistols are adjusted to do this as it was my understanding that catching the sear without pressure is a "malfunction". i have fixed this on a few phantoms and it always smooths out the action and gives better fps and efficiency numbers. a few guns were so bad that, under pressure, you had to pump the gun so hard it would vent

If I had carter guns (and I have several) I wouldn’t be walking around dry firing for fear of having to find a new power tube?
