Thoughts on DM14, Dye in 2023

    Good morning,
I have a verbal agreement to pick up an entire playing setup this weekend. A local player has a lot for sale, and I have offered to buy a barely used DM14 with BW bolt, Empire EVS mask, Ninja 68/4500 tank with fresh hydro, and either a rotor or spire 200 (his choice). 6 bills total, seems like a good deal to me.

What is the general consensus on dye? I've been out of playing since about 2012/2013, where I strictly played pump, but if I recall, Dye and PE were tops at that point. It seems dye has dropped off in popularity and their resale is low (good for me).

It seems like SP is back in high demand, and BL and PE still have major followers.

I really liked my DM14. The grips can be hard to find, but if that one is barely used it probably isn't an issue. I think you could find a newer M2 or DSR and buy those other items separately for a similar total.

probably, but i think the whole package would be closer to 750 if i tried to go separate and buy the M2 or DSR. plus i like to look at it before buying. the cheapest seem to be on PBN, but I've been burned by some of those gear flippers. and it seems like everyone's acct started in 2023 on that forum nowadays.

$600 is about the top of my budget. I'm shocked at how the newer dye guns really can't hold value at all!

I don't have a high opinion of Dye paintguns these days. I think they topped out somewhere between the DM6 and DM9, but that might be just me.

Once everyone started making spoolers Dye had more competition than in the past. And with the issues I've been reading with the DLS & so many people shooting PE paintguns these days, I think their next offering needs to be really strong.

I also think it's of note that they don't have an offering between the CZR/whatever $400 paintgun they offer and their $1000 DSR.

But I think their other offerings, especially their loaders & masks, are good. I see more of their masks & loaders on the field than any other product they offer.

I like Dye. They were always reliable when I played tournaments. The DM14 will definitely be just fine for paintball today. Heck, aside from the extra weight, the DM3 is just fine for paintball today.

Same seller has an HK shocker RSX that would run $25 more for the whole deal. I intend to buy from him, as I've offered, and feel comfortable with the dm14 with BW bolt, but is the shocker a big upgrade? I'm sure he would be happy selling either

The Shocker RSX is functionally almost identical to a Matrix. So, whichever feels better to you, I guess.

I got the DM14 today. Shoots very nice. My last hi tech marker was a macdev cyborg rx. Great gun, but this dye is much smoother.

I think the concept of the eye pipe is fine, but I don't like that they are so flimsy. Oh well, the one in it is cracked so I ordered two spares with a rebuild kit.

I got the spire 200 loader. Seems fine, looks nice. The ninja tank is great. Fresh hydro last month, so I'm good for a while!

Overall, not the steal of the century, but I feel I did fine for the price paid.

An o-ring on the barrel will help prevent accidental overtightening, which tends to be the cause of cracked eye pipes.

it has the o-ring, but thank you, I'll make sure that I keep one on there.

it seems to be capped at 10bps, which is standard at fields near me. now i'm wondering why i even care about a nicer electric marker. mech is taking over everything!
