Meleager7 I had a new in package lateish production yellow thermal but it wasn't one of these part numbers. I expect there are others like this.

The whole lens debaucle sucks because I would sell my old lenses every year or 3 and keep brand new production around to stay ahead of the natural aging process. Now those old lenses are the ones to have because they're less likely to have the new lens quality control issues. So lame.

These numbers help otherwise buy from a major retailer and have a receipt if the thing starts pealing apart.

I didn't realize this was still such a widespread issue. GI fixed this a while back now. Must be retailers still trying to offload old lenses?

I bought a lens from a local vendor at my field last year. Been perfect.

Well that's scary. My lenses have been fine so far, but I haven't checked the numbers recently, my newest lense was a clear one I got back in August.

I had one that went all wrinkly and bubbled on the inside in some crazy heat and humidity last year, but other than that mynclear and smoke lense have been okay, and I get gogged a lot.

ATBen - the lenses don't fail catastrophically, they fail the way you described just turn into junk but they don't shatter on your face. It happens almost immediately.
Glaman - Yes a lot of retailers just still have inventory so it takes some time to move through it which is why knowing the part numbers as a buyer is worthwhile.

So, what exactly happens on the bad lenses? Does the thermal 2nd pane start separating from the main lens?

Mine just peeled and bubbled on the inside after a few hours of fogging. 30°C, 100% humidity in August. It was grimey, even the magfed kids were quitting, no matter how much I told them it was a real "milsim" experience.

There are layers of coatings and they all flake and peel off, and then also sometimes the thermal layer just falls off the glue and gets silly.

The lens doesn't stop being protective everything else falls apart.

If you buy a new lens, retail, or a new mask, keep your receipt and JT will send you a replacement lens after getting documentation of your failed lens. I just bought a brand new black proflex just for fun, and its fine. 70 dollars for new proflex best deal for a new mask by a long shot.

Is this an issue with the Elite lenses as well? I want to rebuild an old JT Elite lens mask for my older boy, as he is getting close to playing age.

I doubt it, those lenses don't get bought much.

i got my new 23485 clear lenses in last week. I just installed them on a used flex 8 camo mask i picked up a few months ago. We'll how these fare out.

toothbrush and spray bottle at the field after you play will keep it from getting too much build up.
