I rean a Python kit with 1/2" tip and loudner on my Viking. Whole barrel was so short I had a ref give me shit before we took our barrel covers off for "Forgetting my barrel in the stagging area"

I can’t use anything more than 11 or 12 and prefer like a 8 or 9 inch barrel. Can’t stand trying to work a bunker with a longer barrel

I've always liked using shorter barrels on any marker. Anything 8-12 inches, with 10in being ideal and 8in being the most fun. I used to run a 8in Lapco for years on my A5, and I think a 8 or 10in Armson Pro is one of the best looking barrels made for a mag. I'm seriously thinking of having mine Freak bored. My main local field very rarely has it's airball field up and running on Saturdays, so I'm almost always playing fields with hard cover where short barrels rule.

Yeah I haven’t played an air ball field in ten years. For hard cover, 8” lapco ftw

I prefer 10" Barrels. Ran a J&J Edge kit for years, now I run a 10" freak tip. Shoots great for recball.

Now that I've decided I want a shorty in my life, trying to figure out where to spend the money.

I could get a DW Whip Tip to use with my existing Stella backs. It would be an expensive little tip, but would have different bore options, leaning towards this. Or go the route of a Lapco or CP Tactical. I placed an order for a .685 CP classic one piece from Critical but they called me saying they are out of that bore and just have .689

Get the cheapest tip you can find and cut it down ...

You can always order direct from CP. if they don’t have what you want online, give them a call, since it’s all pretty standard length/bore/anno options.

If you’re looking for bore sizing options, CP makes a 10” tip for the 2 piece but I think only go down to .679.

DW should do their freak-bored barrel in 10”

Personally, I would avoid the whip tip since so much of it is the threaded aluminum adapter. You’re paying full price and not getting much (if any?) CF or porting with that little length.

CP also doesn't have them in the color I want, and have a big back log. Ah well!

The 10" Whip Tip is the threaded adapter plus 1" of CF with, like you said, minimal porting. But I have some funds to mess around with SooOo..

I used to be die hard maximum length of 12 inch guy but I've come around and enjoy a good 14 inch nowadays. If I was taller I might use a longer barrel but longer than 14 and I hit the ground too easily when I run.

Anyone else's Tanto barrel have a fugly bore? The Bore on mine is the roughest I've ever seen by a mile.

Just remembered the Stella shank with a thread protector should give 10” also.

Mine has a mirror finish. I'd let Doc know about it.

I used to use a 10" JJ Edge on my first Minicocker twenty years ago. Worked great. Excellent efficiency, and the short length was appreciated playing front, which was most of the time.

Now, I have a 10" Freak front and a Tanto barrel. I prefer longer barrels these days as I tend to shoot a little better with the longer "sight radius", but the shorter barrels feel good on certain markers.

I like using the stock 10" on my PAL Emek. Don't notice an accuracy difference, and honestly I just like how it looks on there.

But for whatever reason, I still use a 12" on my non-PAL Emek, and 12" on everything else.

-A few of the very early ones wound up kind of rough, as the CNC shop was having some trouble getting the tools set up. (They'd just moved to an entirely new building, and there were a few issues getting everything back up to full speed.)

I thought I'd culled most of those out- there were less than a dozen. I'll swap it out, if you'd like. But since the insert is the bore on the back, and the ball shouldn't even touch the few inches of tip, it shouldn't affect accuracy. It can make it tougher to clean with a squeegee or mop, though, so if it's a problem, just let me know and I'll swap it out.

                          Doc.

Ahh good information - Appreciate the offer of a swap out, but you are right - it is fine as is and I do agree that since its after the freak, what does it matter Happy to keep this one no biggie.

                            Plus now I can say its a 1 of 12 barrel :P

To answer the OP: As usual, a little of everything.

On my 'Cockers and my go-to near-antique Etek, I'm a big fan of my 14-inchers. I have a couple of the old Bob Long Longshots, in .691" and .684" (I think) and a pair of Eignbarrels at .684" and .679". Last time the local field was open, all they had was Valken, and it was tiny- I got roll-outs with the .679".

But as noted, I prefer the extra "sight radius", especially since I'm not a hoser, and would prefer to make a hit with the first few shots, not "walk them in" with a half a pod.

That said, I have a 12" on my 'Mags, 8" and 11" on my Phantoms, although I have one of the... 13", I think it is? barrels from... what was it, Pump House?

I've got a MiniMag with a factory 8", and I'm not sure I've ever used anything else on it, one Bushmaster has a 14", another has a 12", and the Pointman has a... 10" I think? Whatever the stock size was for the Pointy.

The Rezzy, Clone, K2 and Ego have pretty much never seen anything but their factory 12" 2-piece barrels. I have a Tanto on my Revolution, and to me, that's just perfect. I also have a compact P-block MiniCocker with a Tanto, and I love the look and feel.

I used to be a die-hard 12" to 14" type, and even today, if you're shooting for (if you'll pardon the pun) maximum air efficiency, I still say a good bore match and long control bore are preferable. But it's been a long time since I had to try and make an entire weekend on a 2,300 psi fill, so I don't worry about it as much. I'll still fiddle with bores a bit when running a Phantom, as the barrel can mean 5-6 shots per cart difference,
