    Woodsball Alliance

I noticed on Social Paintball's website that there is a custom jersey available for members of an organization called the Woodsball Alliance that supposedly promotes woodsball fields, events, scenario games, etc. Social wants you to enter your member number in order to order the jersey. From what I can tell, the Woodsball Alliance appears to be defunct. www.woodsballalliance.com does not appear to resolve to any page. A Google search turns up a 4 or 5 year old Reddit thread about it, posted by a friend of one of the founders. The link to the webpage is dead, as is the link to a Facebook group that does not appear to exist anymore.

Anyone here have any insight into this? Was anyone ever a part of this organization? Did it die out, or was it just a nice concept that never really got off the ground? The brief description on Social Paintball's site sounds like a great organization to have around. I wonder if it just never caught on. I've emailed SP asking if they have further information, but have not yet received a reply.

I’ve heard people reference it in the past, but I’ve never found anything with actual details.

Ok so I will post something here. It will be wordy but it’s my take on a duplicable system that anyone regardless of gear or skill level can participate in.

Cool.... What does it have to do with the OP asking about what the woods ball alliance jersey origins are?

        Tactical Paintball Players League

The TPPL is a Paintball League dedicated to more than just walk-on scrimmage. With a focus on real world situations and scenarios the TPPL utilizes strategy and tactical planning for mission success. With a focus on inclusiveness, TPPL members are leaders, representing scenario paintball players everywhere. As such we expect members to maintain a code of conduct. As a minority portion of an extreme sport we need to introduce everyone we can to our formats. This league was designed to be playable by everyone, from the kids outlaw balling with hopper fed spyders to the Mag Fed players clearing buildings in a training facility.

        Rules

        Safety:
        • A regulated paintball goggle is required to be worn at all times within the hot zone. Only within the safe zone are you not required to wear one.
        • Barrel covers are required within the safe zone at all times. If you do not have one, one will be given to you to use for that day.
        • If someone is injured or seriously hurt on the field during play, an alarm will be sounded and the game will be stopped (one knee on the ground and marker barrel touching the ground). Once the injured player leaves the hot zone, the game may proceed.
        • Markers will not exceed the limit of 300FPS (field rules may change this) (.43 caliber sidearms).
        • Full auto firing mode is subjected to a maximum limit of 15BPS.

        Code of Conduct

We expect TMFL members to represent our sport in a good light, demonstrating sportsmanship, athleticism and a willingness to teach wherever they may play. Don’t forget to mind your Ps and Qs.

        Formats

Open - Bring the equipment you have this format is the least restrictive / most inclusive and should give newer players a chance to understand the strategy involved in this format

Mag Fed - This format requires Mag Fed equipment for the most part and focuses on realism. Tac caps set at 30 rounds are permitted.

Siege - 5 on 5 attack and defend either bomb, hostage or secure area. Attackers can use one of the following (Breacher, Support, or Sniper)

        Recon -

Players should become proficient in their chosen roles so that leaders can utilize them as assets

        Classes:
        • There are of 5 classes per team which will be: shooter, support, medic, engineer, and sniper. Each team may have up to one of each specialist or an unlimited number of shooters.
        • Each player can use .68, .50 or .43 caliber paintballs. (See field and or event rules)

Approved .68, .50, or .43 revolvers are also approved where field rules allow.
        • Each magazine will be subject to a maximum limit of 30 rounds at a time. Tac caps may be permitted.
        • Due to the higher accuracy and range of First Strike Rounds, marksmen are only limited to one primary marker and one secondary marker.
        • Smoke bombs will be unlimited, but must be cool burn only or (field rules).
        • All players are allowed to carry an unlimited number of prop knives that cannot cut or puncture.

        Elimination/Disability:
        • If a player is shot on any body part, other than the head or plate that player must leave the field and reinsert at the command base or be revived by the medic. A medic can only be revived from another medic or by reinserting at the command base.
        • Players wearing mock plates can ignore hits to the front, back and side plates if inserted.
        • Players who have been shot on any body part, other than the head, and who wish to be revived by a medic must remain on the field at the spot where they were hit with one or both hands raised above their head. These players must remain silent, and any attempt to communicate with “live” players will result in the dead player being declared out with no chance for revival.
        • If a player is shot in the head, that player is considered out with no chance of revival. If a player is shot on any other body part, other than the head, that player may be revived by a medic.
        • If the marker currently being used by a player gets shot, it is considered disabled and non-functional put barrel bag on. A disabled marker can be repaired by an engineer.
        • There will be an option of a 10ft. surrender rule. A player may surprise an opposing player(s) and approach to within 10 feet and declare “surrender” in a loud, clear voice. If the opposing player(s) choose not to surrender and/or attempt to shoot the capturing player may shoot shoot. (except field rules)
        • Players within a 15ft blast radius of a rocket will be eliminated with no chance of revival from a medic.
        • If a grenade goes off and a player is marked with paint the size of a quarter or larger that player is considered out with no chance of revival.
        • If knifed, that player is considered out with no chance of revival.
        • If caught cheating, the player(s) will be ejected from the field with no refund.
          • Cheating includes (but is not limited to) wiping, talking while out, or any other attempt to gain unfair advantage in the game.

        Class Attributes:
        • Rifleman have no special attributes. They are only required to shoot and support the player(s).
        • Support can use a heavy weapon like Dfender or Boxmag. If open format give him the fastest space dildo you have.
        • Medics can revive other player(s) an unlimited number of times. A medic can only be revived by another medic or by reinserting at the command base. Medics are humanitarian people and can heal players or medics from either team if desired.
        • Engineers can repair marker(s) an unlimited number of times. An engineer’s marker can only be repaired by another engineer from the same team. Engineers also use rockets and other explosives.
        • Snipers can use FSR paintball rounds

Some observations to your body armor rule. Giving players the ability to ignore hits on their person is dangerous and will promote behavior that heightens the risk of injury. Ignoring "gun" hits is often the rule used, but legitimizing players not calling their hits to their body as a rule will cause a lot of problems for you. Asking refs to enforce this rule is above and beyond anything a ref should have to worry about.

The rest of your classes and rules are generally fine and in use at a lot of events to some degree.

I keep seeing old organizations die out and if everyone could agree on a format or system woodsballers could unite like the good ol days. I found the same thing happening to a lot of woodsballers organizations is why I posted. Sorry not trying to hijack or anything, just saw that someone on a Facebook woodsballers group started to try to make a universal woodsballers format.

Mostly because what the industry calls "woods ball" really translates to recreational player. 99% of those players are just out to have fun and if you force upon them so silly rules they just are going elsewhere.

Saw that first hand when my local indoor made their busiest nights "gravity feed only" to cater to a lower tier of walk on player..... They stopped coming and a year later the field was gone

Not too sure I agree with your premise, "if everyone could agree on a format or system woodsballers could unite like the good ol days" given woodsballers even in the "good ol days" never were very united. What you listed above is not what I would consider woodsball those are more along LARP or Scenario rules/format and I do not equate Woodsball and LARP/Scenario paintball formats. In my view woodsball is more of a venue then a strict format of paintball. Large field in the woods paintball is woods ball. Same rules just more spread out with a tendency to a longer maybe slower time frame or pace. Games that from start to finish opposing players can not see each other and many times have objectives other then total elimination. That is woodsball and other then playing outlaw anymore has become a rarity. Fields anymore concentrate players in to smaller bordered fields that relay heavily on manmade barricades and opponents started in sight of each other. So provide a venue of more open woods play and woodsball will come back but without the correct venue your "rules/formats" will do nothing to reunite woodsballers.

I love paintball been playing steady since 1988 and baring sickness or injury I play once a month currently recreationally. I love all aspects of paintball but my favorite type of play is woodsball on a large format field or 24 hr Scenario games (you can include Big Games here too but I really prefer Scenarios). I played rec ball this weekend and had a good time but out of the 10 games I played only 2 could be even remotely considered woodsball (because the field was in the trees) but you still could see your opponents at the start and the field was mostly manmade bunkers. I haven't played woodsball since Jan/Feb not because I don't want to but because paintball fields that have true woodsball areas are far fewer then they used to be.

If you ever find yourself in a position to be in Mobile on a Saturday, have I got a field for you. Southern Alabama Paintball is a living time capsule. All woodsball, with a healthy mix of wooden bunkers, forts, and the odd bit of hypertube strewn about. Terrain varies from a waist high grassland to actual swamp. The total playing area is just under 18 acres, though we'll use different portions of it throughout the day and depending on the number of players. One game at a time, everyone plays together, red vs. blue. All games are 20 minutes. BYOP welcome and the field paint is Nelson. Electros are capped at 10 bps, semi-auto only. Great field culture that simply does not tolerate agg bullshit. When I started playing again two years ago after 20 years away, it was almost like I'd never left.

And on a good weekend, we can get some massive games going. I've played everything from 6 v. 6 to more than 80 per team there.

Thanks I will keep that in mind. I like to travel to different fields so I will add Southern Alabama Paintball to the list. A good friend of mine lives near Oyster Bay and I owe him a visit soon.

When I scoured the Internet it seems like everything that had any merit wise defunct or otherwise inoperable.

I tried to gather what I could For a duplicable format and put some of my own ideas in what it needs is input from all the other recreational guys who paintball. Personally I like mag fed and I will be building a private training facility which I will surround with thoughtful bunkers and structures, not just junk. My business demands a training facility and obviously I need to keep costs down by when I don’t have clients or on weekends or something I could definitely turn it into a CQC facility for special games. I remember the old spec ops paintball and how much we love the way they did things I think many people would agree. I just get tired of getting rental n00bs on my team in pickup games and there’s no coordination 🤣

You started well, and then jumped off a cliff.
          Consider me a noob,
I go to a place where it's easy ~ You're Blue - They're Red, get the other team's flag without getting hit. Simple fun.
Then I go to "your" place and find a plethora of rules to learn about class and attributes so that I have no idea which category the guy who just started shooting at me falls into.

Guess which field I'm going to play at.

We get together, we have fun. It's playing "Tag" through the woods, not some paramilitary training filled with rules and regulations.
