When you meet a true "MCB-er"

I recently moved from Utah to Virginia and got to play today. I posted in the South East section about my moving and chatted with a few folks. Made plans to try out a field and met Pyrate Jim there. He drove even further than I did. And let me tell you what, this gentleman fully encompasses the true spirit of MCB. He brought along tons of amazing, old school memorabilia and gear that gives you the "kid in a candy store" feeling. Mint condition 007, super cool Phantoms, old JT goodness. He's been playing as long as I have been alive and it was a blast getting to know another MCB member in real life. Shared stories from the golden days and his friendship with Jack Locicero amongst many things.

I am sure he won't mind, but I had to snap a photo of what he was rocking which was the coolest stock class Automag ever. SP wood grips, AA barrel, running a lever changer island style. You could blow on the pump handle and it would cock. Then he busted out all the patches and a binder full of official technician certificates from just about every brand out there...so awesome! I should have just taken a video showing everything and interviewing the man.

We had a photo taken on his camera with a Carter's Commandos banner which I'll update this post with later on.

Pirate is an absolute legend, miss seeing him around the fields here in New England.

First brass gun I shot was his very fancy KP, here's a photo of it from Airsports back in 05 or 06. I gogged Jim Massey with it the same day too! Have footage of it around here somewhere...

One day the universe will align and I will link up with both of you at Skyline. Today’s weather was so nice. I will supply the 12 grams.

Jim is an absolute Icon in this sport...I've had the honor of knowing him for the better part of 20 years. Fought both against him and along side him.....
My favorite story of his is when he was playing with a Splatmaster and snuck into the Castle at EMR and got right next to Glenn Palmer without him realizing he was in the other team

He’s the man for sure. Known him for years from the New England area. His collection “Museum “ is very impressive

If You are here, You are part of the MCB family. I do so enjoy actually meeting others of this family, especially when both of us are out of our home territory.
It was a terrific time meeting Lazer and look forward to meeting cheapchi in the future.

Me, I've been around so long with a love of the game and the camaraderie of the people I meet still amazes me.

I really liked that place. (Skyline paintball in Strasburg, Va.) The fields were flat and level, and just a little bit overcrowded with structures. Easy to get to off/on the highway. First time I've been there, but I'll be going back there at some point in the future.

The day started slow & casual. We were just 3 on 3 up until almost 1:00. (I got there just before 10:00 and Lazer showed up soon after) It seemed like a walk-on day, there were a few practicing drills on the tourney court when I showed up but had left by noon, before the crowd of maybe two dozen who came to play showed up. We took a break as they were getting registered, I should have taken the opportunity to run to the McDonalds a mile or so up the street. And the map says a microbrewery a few miles further. Y'know, for after.

Often, I take pleasure in watching the kids play and this was not an exception. The last couple of games (I was near my limit) I donned a ref shirt and brought out the camera with the admonition that "If you shoot the cameraman, I won't post the pics!". An empty threat, since I still can't figure out how to get pics online. I'll get back to that.
I did get a pic of the birthday party of what looked like 10 year olds all geared up. I thought about a pic having them hold the MCB banner, just as a joke.

But I must admit, I may have been cheating those last games. I have a soft spot for young ladies with no experience (you prevert!) and when I saw these two trying so hard to keep up, I had to help them by telling them what the game was about. The first time was when they had made it to the closest building and no further. Meanwhile, the other team grabbed the flag and tried to run it in only to get tagged by his own team some thirty feet from hang. It was after the Ref re-hung the flag where it dropped that these girls figured out it was only 20 feet away and I told them it was the objective and go get it. She did, and had to call her team to come get it and run it in.
Nearly the same thing in the last game. I was watching the two girls, and they were moving up all on their own yet far behind the rest of their team who had advanced past the center-flag (I watched 3 of them run past the flag without grabbing it). The other team was eliminated and these girls were discussing whether to go. I couldn't help myself and almost yelled at them to just go,go, go!
One of them did and got the pull and the hang. She actually jumped in the air when they called the game.

So, yeah. I wasn't supposed to talk to players as an NPC. It was technically cheating on my part to advise them during the game. I can live with that.
The joy of that young girl winning the game made it worth it ~ and it really made no difference who ran it in since the other team were all in the deadbox.
I did get some pictures. And there's my problem.
I can get them onto the desktop, not from there to here without a server that allows third party hosting. I'm going to try that paintballcity link on the front page of MCB.
We'll see how that one goes. I've lost literally thousands of pics on photobucket & imgur.
Hopefully, I'll work it out and show it, just give the old man some time. How was it ~ A Timex watch in a digital age?

Never worked before, I could try it again and expect a different result.

🤞 you got to cross your fingers first. Also choose the smaller file option in the upload the system don’t like big files. It will compress it a bit and lower quality but look just fine for enjoying purposes.
