    Venmo / Zelle Vs PayPal

So with these new forms of payments is it bad to post a non PayPal / Venmo, Zelle price and a PayPal price?

I get the MCB rule of not asking for fee's , but that was years ago when other forms of Ecommerce were not invented...

And yes I get the whole for your own protection deal, but I get asked the Venmo/ Zellle question all the time,
now I never ask for gift payments since its just easier to print labels with PayPal shipping , but due to fee's at about 4% lots of people dont use or have PayPal..

    Your thoughts?

That's not an issue for me at all. A PayPal price being higher to cover the cost of business is fair. You aren't forcing anyone to buy an item and not asking for the buyer to cover the fees outright.

I have had awful experiences with Venmo and will not use them any more. They offered zero help when I was screwed out of money - zero. At least with the Paypal service, I've gotten backed up.

Zelle and Venmo is good as a wire transfer, zero recourse, once you hit the button it's gone. Concerning for the buyer but green light as a seller. Pirateship.com is as cheap as it gets.

Venmo is owned under the PayPal umbrella, as to why they have yet to merge has been a mystery to me and even more of a mystery to me on their lack of support when it comes to buyer protection

Zelle and Venmo are for face to face stuff where shipping is not needed. Zero support once the money is gone

PayPal is for anything that requires shipping

That said, I wouldn't mind it if you had 2 prices, I'd be using PayPal regardless

Venmo has a buyer protection option now FYI, works just like Paypal.

More of an age divide IMO. Nobody I know under 30 uses paypal except for MAYBE quicker checkout at stores.

Venmo is also much easier to use for the average person, Paypal's interface is clunky as hell in comparison.

I was going to disagree, but I do see Venmo does appear to offer purchase protection now. However, their website is a mess, as some parts still say that they don't.

                Helpful Information
                BUYER AND SELLER BEWARE
Venmo does not offer a buyer or seller protection program for transactions conducted using the Venmo app or Venmo.com, regardless of the nature of the payment (or charge), unless expressly offered to you by Venmo. Authorized Merchant Payments and Venmo Debit Card transactions may be eligible for protection under the Venmo Purchase Program. See Venmo’s User Agreement for more information on Authorized Merchant Payments, Venmo Debit Card transactions and related protection. The Venmo Purchase Program does not apply to any payment you make (or charge you accept) using the Venmo app or Venmo website, regardless of the nature of the payment (or charge).

Buying and Selling on Venmo FAQ
When you tag a specific payment to a personal profile as a purchase, your payment will be covered by Purchase Protection, if eligible. If you’re the buyer, and what you bought isn't delivered, arrives broken, or is just plain wrong, let us know. Venmo Purchase Protection can help make it right. If you’re the seller, Venmo Purchase Protection can help prevent you from losing money due to unauthorized transactions or claims that the buyer never received their purchase.

The seller will pay a small fee of 1.9% + $0.10 of the transaction. If the payment is $100, the seller would receive $98 and $2 would be used to pay the fee.

              PayPal owns Venmo

Originally after purchase Venmo was just PayPal friends and family, they now seem to be rolling goods and services into Venmo

I feel the opposite, I can see if you don't like the web page version of PayPal but comparing PayPal app to Venmo app, PayPal is simple, Venmo gets all cluttered up seeming to think I want/need to know what my friends are using Venmo to pay for. Like I need to be advertised to now that I already have the app, want some crypto? Here's 5 buttons!

Meanwhile, while there are other things on the app PayPal has the useful stuff out front. Here's your balance, here's your recent transactions, here's a button for sending, here's another for receiving. Hell I run my shipping through PayPal these days. It's all linked and I can get business rates. I literally just have to give it the box information, it pulls the shipping address from PayPal, charges my account and I get a shipping label for around 15% under what the post office will charge me

I have a paypal and have zero interest in these other fad forms of payment. If a buyer wants something of mine and doesn't use paypal, that's their problem, not mine.

I agree, but PayPal is getting frustrating as well. I'm by no means a new PayPal user, buy and sell stuff on here mostly at least a few times a year. Both of my last two sales have had the funds held by PayPal for 21 days all while increasing their fees and likely to report you to your friendly neighborhood tax/revenue agency.

If someone asks for Zelle info I immediately assume they are a scammer and stop communicating with them. Had to sell some stuff on Fbook recently and the Zelle scam attempts were through the roof. No payment platform is perfect, but PayPal is still by and far my preferred one.

-Thank the crooks and congress. (But I may be repeating myself. )

The tax reporting requirements are part of the new tax laws from both the Trump and Biden administrations. eBay, PayPal and the rest are legally obligated to report income over a certain amount, they didn't just do it on a whim.

As for much of the rest, blame the crooks. Any system in place to move money, attracts crooks. Places like banks and PayPal, see literally millions of hacking/cracking attempts every day- there are entire server farms in multiple countries, solely dedicated to trying to beak into banks and other transaction services.

Besides that, PayPal sees millions of fraudulent transactions or attempted transactions every day. They cannot be individually adjudicated. It's simply not possible, the volume is simply too large. It's often not fair, but there's also not much we can do about it. Any payment system is going to have similar issues- maybe, once we get quantum computing underway, that will change, but I suspect that once quantum is commonplace, the crooks will figure out how to exploit that, too.

On the plus side, the vast majority- way over 99%- of PayPal users are legitimate, honest buyers and sellers. Unfortunately, there's crooks out there, but really, there's crooks everywhere. The sad fact is, you gotta learn to protect yourself.

my 5 year old asked me the other night if there was bad people in the world...
I kindda felt myself getting a little too deep and had to take a step back. lol
well see what kind of phycological effect this culminates in later in life.

i use paypal. im just more familiar with it. and i can use it to make purchases online at legit stores. i dont see venmo and zelle much if at all.

I tell my 4 1/2 year old that sometimes people make bad choices, because I don't want her to think of herself as a bad person just because she makes a mistake.

But I also have to be honest and say that there are some people who seem to make bad choices pretty much all of the time.

Interesting approaches to it. We talk openly with my 5yo about there being some bad guys in the world. If and when there's an emergency situation I don't want it to shock him. May depend on where you live - we're in St. Louis on the fringe of rough neighborhoods, so we can't trust everyone around us.

I agree that Venmo seems to be more popular with a younger crowd. I get way more people that are 20-40 asking to pay with Venmo than people 40+ when I sell honey at fairs and markets. I'd personally prefer that someone pay me through Venmo simply for the fact that Venmo doesn't take a cut like PayPal or Square does.

That's a good point I hadn't even thought about that. Pretty much any legitimate paintball shop will let you pay with pp these days.

While I don't mind Venmo for in person stuff, I really don't like zelle. I use US Bank for all my paintball stuff which is a zelle partner, great right? Not really. If I go into the zelle app, all it says is "looks like your back is a partner! You're all set!"

In reality what this means is "this app now does nothing for you, go use your banks version of it instead" and while us banks app isn't bad, I just hate having to navigate a different app to use the service that I would like to use in tbe first place

when i buy ammo online (my state allows that for now), i can pay with PP.
ive used PP many times instead of having to enter my shipping address, card #, name on card, expiration date, security #, Billing address, and all that. i can pay with PP, log in, see cost of everything all itemized, and click pay.

ive been told to never use the photo option for making purchases. Something about the photo is never truly deleted, or its stored on your phone in the clipboard, or something like that.

on a side note, i redirected the conversation with him about all the good people in the world. tried to leave off on a positive note.
