    Nerf speedball......

Well, the projectiles are rounder, heavier, larger diameter, better quality controlled, and have a similar likelihood of breaking as most modern paint sold as 68 caliber, so we can't dismiss it immediately.

Not a single player had $400 worth of headbands on his noggin either, so they're beating paintball in the IQ department too. We might need to switch over....

I just watched the game video. It's not as bad as I thought it would be and I really like the ball idea. It makes every "point" different and gives an actual focal point for spectators.

It would never work in paintball unless shot rate is significantly degreased. Maybe 5.5 bps? I wonder how long it would take for the meta game to turn into racking up kill points and pretty much ignoring the ball aspect. Or maybe it would be that players get really good at taking shots. Seems like in this game players shooting ball aren't great at it for it being a championship game.

I think it could work in paintball and essentially has.

Essentially paintball started like that on a larger scale for sure, but Object of the game was essentially the same just instead of a ball and net you had a flag.

I like the concept and would love to see it played with stock class guns.

Thanks for the write up Dusty Bottoms , very informative. My big question for you though is do you see this catching on?

From an outside perspective I say hell no. Looking at that video, there's got to be 50k invested there (not counting the bubble building itself) between all the electronics, bunkers, lighting, turf etc not even counting all the staff.

So I'm like, where's the business model here? Go buy a $130 nerf blaster, convince 6 friends to do the same, then come pay me $50 each to play in my arena for an hour and hopefully there's another team to play against? Just seems like a hard sell to me

So add more bunkers and restrict the shooting lanes. The reason nerf doesn't need to is the range is significantly less. Play this on a smaller urban field though, it could work, it's basically a modified version of center flag push with respawns.

Lots of fields already offer “low impact” games.

to help encourage kids to play, the local field also offers laser tag, 50 cal paintball, “gelly ball”, gotcha ball (120fps), etc

this would be a similar idea

Does anyone have an explanation for these?

This was kind of another thought I had about it because Nerf is advertising it as age 14 and above but these kids can go play gel blasters or laser tag much much younger and my local field says around 7 or 8 for 50 caliber paintball for as long as the mask fits. He just seems odd that their target audience is basically high School

The only way that this would work is for Hasbruh to actually listen to the consumer and release a "Pro" grade Half-length blaster. The needed tech for stable long range foam shooting has been perfected in the last few years, and so it could be time for some kind competitive format. But "stock" class could never work, Dart tag bunkers were set up like 4 ft away from each other for a reason.
