    Modern On/Offs - User Experiences

I'm curious about the user experience for modern on/offs. Like most accessories these days there are not a lot of options. Basically tried and true CPs, PE POPs and ID EZ ASAs. What do you like, what don't you like and why?

I've got a variety of on/offs like BL, DP RAPs, CPs and recently picked up two PE POPs. I'm using an ID frame on this build so I want an internal dovetail without a rail. The PE is a little long for the ID frame so thinking of picking up an ID EZE ASA which I assume will match the frame perfectly.

I swear by CP on/offs. They are inexpensive and work great. I've had OOPS & POPS ones and they're nice, but the tried-n-true simple CP has always worked for me.

The CP direct mount on/off, specifically the fatter/older version, is my all time favorite ASA. Solid, and gassing/degassing feels great. Other on/offs feel super stiff and I still have to pull the trigger while turning it "off" to fully degass. Like the CCM ASA, or one of those unimount bird cage style. Have a POPS on my Emek and those work great as well. I just slam my palm on it and good to go, degasses nicely as well.

What about the old 32 degrees ones? Back in the early 2000s, they seemed to be pretty popular.

Never had any issues with them, bit dont seem very common these days.

Man I haven't seen one of those in forever. They worked fine too, but I don't remember them having a purge and the build quality was all over the place, as was tradition with 32°

32 degrees themselves were not popular but that style that they copied was a kapp on/off style and they worked fine and were simple, but did not purge.

I used and REALLY liked the Dye UL Airport ASA. It's out the front which is nice but not internally dovetailed like you're looking for. In that style you're only looking at PE and Inception on/offs. I like the Inception one since it's easier to turn on.

Yeah for me its any of the 2k5 and up CP's with the super easy twist. The 2008 mini style direct mount and rail mount are my favorites by far. Yeah, no center output hose but the overall package is better than the Bob long gear drive, the eclipse pops, and the inception to me which all make a lot of compromises to have a hose coming out front.

I like the angel and trinity on/off designs they work OK for a center output though not very easy to find anymore.

The bob long cam drive was nice too but I don't like the look much.

The POPS is by far the best. Rock solid, easy to install, easy to service, centered output, and easy to gas up/down. ID EZ on/off is ok, but I don't like having to remove the lever to install. DP RAPS are cool in thory but garbage in practice. They cut their primary o-ring about every other time you gas them up. CP is too expensive for what you get.

Had a Gen 1 RAPs on my Karni for over a decade and never had any issue or had to replace an o-ring. It never had the ball bearing between the rail and the on/off so had to improvise.

I've never had a problem with CP's, both the standard and mini size, and they look good on a automag so that's what I stick with. My Emek has a POP's, which works fine with my 450psi tank, but I'm sure they would be a dog to use with something like my Ninja 900psi SHP.

Even with an 800psi output the POPS works well. Sure, gotta give it some more love to engage but not too bad

Out of the beer one you mentioned I've only used the RAPS which I thought worked really well.

As my old school On/Offs have started to leak/get hard to turn I have replaced them with ID's EZ on/off. Once you figure our the knack of removing the actuator to mount they are easy to install and I've had zero problems with them.

CP is good but the little knob is harder to turn with gloves on - I like the small profile though. I have an old 32 degrees one and it's easier to turn but I hate how big it is.

POPS on my Etha2 works pretty well but it's hard to degas with 800 psi tank. Button is small.

My personal favorite is the DP lever style. I have a couple of DP markers with them so I didn't have to install aftermarket. Lever is really easy to use at all times. I haven't had any issues with accidentally flipping it during game but I've heard some people have.

Damn I'm surprised by all the CP love here. I thought I would have to argue the merits of the CP ASAs

But same here. I specifically use the 2k7? 8? Mini on/off. It's a super solid asa with only 2 o rings and is really easy to twist.

Also, I know from experience one can take a 6 foot fall onto concrete, with the full weight of a marker and a human arm landing on it, to the point where it gets some aluminum scratched off and keep trucking no problem

And cp is just a really stand up company, they sent me parts free of charge for regulators I made very clear that I had purchased used. Great people in the industry

My favorite are the Bob Long cam drive. I sold one and should have kept it. I think It’s the best looking ASA and works great. You can’t get them anymore and they bring a premium. But those are definitely the best ASA I have used. I would love to see them come back.

PE pops I like for anything not Ninja ball valve regulated. It’s not PE fault it’s ninjas that the ASA is hard to turn on an off when using a ninja reg. I think it’s one of the nicer looking ASA to. Only available in dust kind of sucks and I made me switch all my ball valve regs to pin valves so I don’t have that issue anymore. I did have one anodized in gloss black and its really cool.

Inceptions ASA I find it to easy to activate when setting the marker down. I don’t like the look as much. But it works great no complaints. If I built an inception marker I would use one. If not I would probably choose something different.

Can’t beat the good old CP ASA tho for the money.

I've always preferred CP direct mounts to anything else.

                        My choices would be:

#1: WGP Karnivor style. Very easy to turn on/off plus the milling and colors go great with all my autocockers. Only downside is they’re starting to get expensive on eBay.

#2: CP on/off. Also very easy to turn, widely available in tons of colors.

#3: Inception. Works great, no color choices and kind of spendy tho.

I've got a Karni on/off sitting on an A-5 at the moment, that might need to change.
