Ion body, or lack there of?

Ok, how much of the outer body shroud is really needed to keep an Ion functioning?

Thinking about cutting down a body to it's bare minimum but I'd want to keep the eyes covered and maybe the back still covered too.

If the detents are held in and the eyes are covered and there's a bit between the frame and core you're good

There's a 3D printable 'tray' that allows you to run without the body. Not sure how covering the eyes/detents works though.

spikeball I've got a version with eye covers. That's just the base tray model for people to start off of.

I have a bodyless ion. Meched, a piece of spring steel holds the detents

Possibly? I got it from ANSGear for like $5 when they were getting rid of most of their Ion stuff.

I got mine from ChoSanJuan. It covers the eyes and detents and looks great doing it.

Hey guys, I just inherited an original Ion and was looking to 3d print a a 'bolt out back' body for it, I found Cho's tray' stl on thingiverse and was wondering if anybody had any of the other ion .stl files i've seen floating around here. I'm a total noob to Ions but i'm really into 3d printing and i'd love to try out any kind of quality of life mods/cool stuff you have come up with!
