    I Just Can't...

wear jerseys. I get too damn hot, too damn quick. After one game I am panting like a dog and peel it off. As much as I want to look super cool and like I know what I am doing, a t-shirt and armpads is all I need to survive.

Share your experiences of things in paintball you tried to do/use but gave up on. (I am sure "shooting an electro" will be a popular one)

I agree, back in my tourney days I had to go the jersey route but now I just sport a T-shirt.

I wear one of our team tech shirts with a padded shirt underneath & armpads. We have jerseys, but I usually wear it only if it's under ~60 degrees outside.

As for other things I've given up on- stock class. I just can't do it. I get too caught up in keeping track of how much I'm shooting, 12g changes, all that stuff & I don't seem to do well. I realize there's a learning curve & that pump-only games are the way to go (never played one...), but I've tried it a few times now & I don't see it being one of my core play styles.

I do have a PMI Trracer w/a stock class feed and a SC gauntlet, but I only plan on using that if I'm going to be a runner for a big game or if I'm just gonna wander the field & BS with people. But that's it.

CA + 10 round stick feed sounds way more appealing to me than fiddling with those 12g powerlets. Even if you're really concientious about dumping your empties in a pouch and properly disposing of them after the game, that's still a significant amount of waste to generate. Not to mention it is a nuisance to have to keep up with both paint and changing cartridges.

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like stock class. A big part of it is probably also that no one else uses it. I'm just not good enough to go up against someone with a semi. One on one....maybe, but that is so rarely the case.

I've been using a stick feed with 10 round tubes and CA for the past two years, though, and I'm enjoying that. It's just enough of a handicap that it keeps things much more interesting.

Plus 12 grams are expensive! I play woodsball, and I have a scuba tank for refills at the field, I can get the scuba tank filled at a local dive shop for $7. Compare that to the $20 or $30 I would spend on 12 grams for the same number of games, and it just doesn't make much sense to me.

I tend to like to, run a remote line if possible, just for the cost efficiency. But, if it's a warm day and I'm not shooting a lot. I might only use 1-4, 12 grams, during any given day of paintball. 😉

when i first started to play, i would wear army camo pants, shirt, arm pads and chest protector. i always got too hot and would take most of the stuff off. later on and up until i stopped playing i would go out in shorts and t shirt, wear a cup and motorcycle knee/shin guards. I still like to slide and drop on down, those save during playing all day.

That is what i will be wearing when i get back to playing.

        I don't do Jersey's either.
I normally wear a shirt I found frozen to the hood of my friend's car after a night of bar-hopping (my buddy got the pants).*
It's a little worn, but it was probably a nice hunting shirt at one time. Heavy cotton with a corduroy collar. Heavy enough to blunt some of the hits, but not so heavy that I overheat. It's been my paintball shirt for a couple of decades now.

        * East Lansing, Michigan in February, 1995ish. Outside of the "Land Shark" IIRC.

I had a 'Cocker for a while. Played a few games with it and wondered what all the fuss was about. It did make me appreciate the relative simplicity (and super crisp trigger) of my Blow Forward marker though. Now I just play Pump or Mech Semi (STBB), hopper ball (with a revi... I'm not a savage, after all). I find that shooting fewer than 8 bps saves me money, makes me think a bit more (and do fewer really dumb things), and makes the game more enjoyable.

Still on the fence with my Electronic grip-equipped Spyder. We'll see how that works out for me (I am guessing it will appear in the FS/WTB section).

As ya suspect yeah I tried electros twice. Just not my thing.

On flip side I tried stockclass. And It is fun, I just suck at it. Like many said it may be a lot more fun when every ones playing that way. It I never had a chance at that. Will always have my PGP if I want to give it another go but long ago sold the phantom. Open class pumps my preference though I may try modified stock one day with a stick feed on my SL68II

Speedball with air bunkers. I bloody hate those things. I will play on a air ball field but I WONT BE HAPPY About it lol.

Paintball vests. Tried it a few times mainly for magfed (also not my thing). Just was not a fan. Found it too warm and when loaded up with mags to bulky and cumbersome.

I think the type of jersey heavily influences this. My old school jerseys are dense and heavy and within 10 minutes I'll be sweating my face off, but the new Ragnastock jerseys we picked up are lightweight and breathable and don't seem to cause swamp ass as much as the OG ones. That said my usual warm weather outfit is a kilt and tank top or sleeveless jersey, though it leaves me highly susceptible to the dreaded ivy.

I can’t do magfed. Got my fill of that silliness in the army. Give me the superfluous glory that is a hopper, even if it’s a little 50 or 100 rounder. Bonus points if it’s translucent and I can see the paint go brrr.

Spitting truth right here. For a couple years I fantasized about being a minimalist, but the last 16 months has me slutting it up all over again

            I can't phantom.....

I have tried on multiple occasions and markers to use a phantom but I just can't get behind them for longer than a game.

Here's the RIP list in order....

Woodland camo vsc Docs machine pneumatic assist phantom
            gold vsc
            Green smart parts ported unibody
            Purple acid wash vsc
Black SC phantom set up like a be nightmare

none of these I kept longer than three months

I currently own a left and right feed black unibody tournament version and whatever I won for Buffalo nppl I never opened it........ Can't use them

I can agree, i was so jazzed to get one, and my friend got one. When I shot it, I couldnt get over how you never really felt like you "completed" the pump stroke.

I think I posted this same reply here, but I love Phantoms but I can't Phantom either. Love the idea, the history, how they work etc. Maybe I will get one again some day for fun. 12 grams and 10 rounds are fun, but I think I'd need to be playing with others also rocking stock class or if I am against like 5 or less rentals. Which is never the case.

            #11
I never wore a jersey, didn’t even understand how they came to be associated with the game honestly...some industrial speedball runoff...until last year when I got the Planet Eclipse digital camo one with the logos all almost invisible and padding in the arms/chest/neck. This thing breaths amazingly well and I’m running cooler temps than ever.

As for what I can’t do, speedball. Not anymore. Not with the airball crap you can’t actually lean on so it’s like you’re playing in an empty room. I f-ing hate speedball in general but I’m %100 more likely to play if they at least have real bunkers. Crates, skids, drums, a burned out Kia Rio, a Kia Rio still on fire even. Something REAL.

I think it's field-dependent but with playing modified stock class, I typically avoid a paintball jersey and, if possible, paintball pants altogether. Not for the heat issue but more so to blend in with the rentals and not be as intimidating. I find that it tends to make the game more approachable for said rentals (for example: I see that guy in cargo pants and a t-shirt with his pump is pushing, he looks like us, ergo we can do what he's doing) and at the same time allows to you fly under the radar a bit when playing against the players running electros and HK army kit

I'm finding myself more inclined to dress down for walk-on play as well. Hiking pants & long sleeve, revvy and short barrel on my Gmek. Less intimidating to kids, Refs don't throw you in with the "Speedballers" and I actually feel more relaxed and casual about the game.

I agree with this. I do wear a jersey or tech shirt, but they're camo-colored & I shoot mech most of the time, so I don't usually get sorted with the electros. Makes for a nice, casual game day.

Can't play semi. I have plenty of them and I love my cockers but I just can't play with them for more than a game or two. I know it shouldn't be this way but I am a way better player with a sniper than a cocker.

(Also, I am a no for jerseys and well. Shorts and t-shirt for me)
"but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"

Can't do pump play of any kind. We'll see if my pump Ion changes that, I've yet to find a pump i like.

                  Speedball... hard pass.

Paintball specific apparel. I like camo or jeans/t-shirt... helps me blend in the renters and nobody expects great things from me that way.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."
