Powertube Question

So, I have two Powertubes:

Lapco #6 cut down to Phantom length
Stock Phantom Powertube

When using the #6, I was really having to crank my TPC, pressure on my Stab at 600, and a heavy main spring to get 280. Well, when I found out it was stripping my cup seals (see Lapco #6 Destroying Cup Seals?), I switched back to the stock CCI Powertube.

Now with my stock powertube, my Stab is at about 500 and my TPC turned out from where it was with the #6. I guess I'll be sticking with the stock powertube.

My question is, why is this happening? I am simply curious and want input from others here with more experience than myself.
