Depends on the set up. It makes no difference in FPS on one of my guns. I do have a medium return spring. It does greatly reduce the sound on that gun. The gun was annoying loud and since I pretty much always hold the pump handle I wanted to figure something else out. I'm now using a modified jam bolt for the same effect. It works remarkably well and it's one of the most consistent guns I've ever owned.
