Personally I have no issues with logical changes like that for a live action film that are based on general logistics. Changing ages and some time lines can be done very effectively while keeping the core of the story itself alive.
yea. I think the one big reason Orson Scott Card kept the movie from being made for so long was exactly that. The reliability/maturity of such a younger actor is rare.
What messes with me is just my own imagination of the heights of various characters. Ender seems a bit too tall for my tastes, or at least in comparison to Petra. They seem to be the same height in the movie. I always imagined her being much taller than Ender.
