Also check to see that the o-ring in the base of the thumb screw is not worn, damaged or missing. That o-ring is meant to help keep it from coming loose after tightening.

If it's gone, you will see a round groove milled in the base of the thumb screw. That is for the o-ring to seat. There should be just a little bit of rubber that makes contact with the bottom of the frame and then compresses when tight.

Using an Allen key is fine with a Phantom, because they have a SS threaded insert in the body. Most other pumps just have the threads cut into the aluminum, and after time the steel thumb screws would cause damage to the aluminum threads.

Not a problem with Phantoms. Use caution, but I suspect that you could bend or ruin the Allen key before you could over tighten the thumb screw. There are even some under-cocking pump kits on the market that depend completely on the strength of that front insert.
