Hey everyone. I have always had sort of a fascination with sword canes, as an aspect of novelty and self-defense. Logic behind this is, should you be in a situation required to defend yourself, you have two options against a knife-wielder. You can draw your sword, which in most logical circumstances should scare the attacker away on its own, or you can simply use the shaft of the cane to knock skulls. If the mugger has a gun, simply leave your blade sheathed, and there shouldn't be any motivation for the robber to shoot you unless that was his intention to start with.
My question is this: I know the state I live in (Texas) has a maximum legal blade length of 5.5", so an actual "sword" cane would be illegal from the start. BUT, a knife company called Cold Steel manufactures a sword cane that conceals not a
blade, per se, but a sharpened piece of steel with a square cross section. It's designed for poking, not slicing. My question is, would this qualify as a "sword cane," and thus be illegal?
Here's a link.
I know laws vary from state to state, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get opinions here. Thanks!
