Automag pump rod length.

I made up a "hanger" pump rod last night just to experiment with rod lengths. First one I made was about 5mm longer then the original one I had. It was ok but not the huge improvement I was looking for. Next one was a full 1cm longer and that was the ticket. Nice short tap on the front and it's setting the bolt just fine with no rubbing what so ever. Just to be sure I made another one that was 1.5cm longer and that one didn't work at all. Now I just need to find a better material to make it out of. I have to think that the clothes hanger rod is flexing a little compared to the stock one. So I'll run by the local parts store and see if the 1/8 inch steel rod will work for me. I think with a bit of filing it will be fine.

My question to all you pump maggers out there is what is the length of your pump rod? Of course I didn't get mine measured but I will to night and edit this post.

I have been using a using a "hanger" rod for years. At the time it matched losely the agd spec length that their drawing that was release a few years ago.

I have thought to make a shortened rod but just never seem to get to it.

Try stainless steel rod if you can get it. It will be a bit harder over all and has a bit less flex. I used a 1/8 stainless welding rod for my project and it worked very nicely. Threading the end is a bit trickier. Use lots of grease or tapping fluid if your going to thread stainless. It tends to clog up the tools so go in smaller distances and clean out the swarfing more often.

Ok as promised my original rod was 5.323" in length and the new one I made was 5.776". I bought some 1/8th steel rod but it's too big and binds after getting it cut down. Adam I think our talking about a cocking rod for a sniper or cocker. I haven't seen an threading on a Agd pump rod at all.

Sorry mines a Rainman kit and has a threaded end. I assumed AGD had been made the same.
