I miss the days of having an assortment of lasers available at my disposal. I used to work at a place that made switches for cell phones. We used lasers for cutting out parts as well as engraving. Of course that same place had a full machine shop that we could use after hours. It is a wonder I ever went home.

I am enjoying seeing your experimenting. If you get the power just right on anodizing you can leave a white ash that really makes it stand out on most colors. I am curious how this would work on cerakote.

We are both wondering... Anyone want to send me something that is Cerakoted to test? A scrap that is coated would be perfect

I know that powdercoat reacts poorly, but can be engraved. You almost have to set the laser to kill with prejudice to make it cut the coating :/

This is true it basically bleaches the color showing the base material color through the ano. In regards to lasering a grey ano as shown with a "raw aluminum silver/grey" you will not get the most "contrasting effect" you can always run the job a second time to "deepen" the "bleaching" effect.

I haven't delved into anything newer for a year or two so there might be different, cheaper or more readily available items out there for exactly what your looking to do but it is a place to start.

You are basically looking for a
permanently marking thermo-reactive coating
usable on metals

The part we forgot to photograph is the other side of the Spyder that has the Hellsing Arms logo and 454 Casull markings from Alucard's gun in the Hellsing anime.

Cerakote can be laser engraved and the finished product looks great. If we coat a marker for a customer that plans on engraving it, we provide a few sample panels for free. That way the engraver can practice on the sample swatches to get the settings just right before starting on the marker.
