Javelin Barrel Mystery

Hey Everyone I just picked up an 03 blind Viking and I have a barrel mystery that has still yet to be solved. My javelin barrel looks to have been bored out to take some sort of inserts (not exactly stock) does anyone know about this sort of thing with javelin barrels. I tried freak inserts and they are slightly too small and they do not line up properly in the barrel (could the inserts have changed between 03 and now?). Any other Ideas? Could a special run have been made for factory teams? Any other insert Ideas from an 03 viking? I would really like the help to solve the mystery.

Javelins were not freak bored from the factory. They didnt have any special editions that did either. AKA and SP went together like oil and water. The fact that it is raw metal up to the lip inside confirms this.

My guess is that it was improperly bored for freak inserts by someone. I know some of the people that offer barrel boring services dont like to do javelins because of the taper on the outside making them hard to hold.

If nothing else maybe Tymcneer could make you one to the exact length/bore you need.

Also isn't the tolerances of freak inserts not to accurate. I had some that would fit one barrel and then be snug in another one.

Would this be for scepter inserts (I think that was the name of the longer than freak inserts) instead?

Scepters needed to have a specific barrel front to work because the inserts were designed to interlock and align with the front. Pictured are the old style backs the newer ones were a little different. Scepters were a little longer that freaks

Yea it was the right length for a freak insert but the insert wasn't snug and it didn't really line up properly. I am confused as to why anyone would do this to a barrel that is fine as is. I am sure it's not cheap to bore out. I would like to be able to use it but it may be a lost cause. I had never heard of aftermarket boring on a barrel so that's new to me. Seems like more trouble than its worth.

Definitely looks like it was nicely bored out on the inside that's also why I thought it may have been factory

i've bored like 600 barrels

everything from stock phantom barrels to 2 piece cp barrels, dye ul's and just about everything else

but i dont do javlins.... i cant hold em

the other part of freak boring...
you cant use an insert larger than the stock bore, so try a small insert and see if you still see a lip/ring

Ok I will have to hunt one down. I don't own a freak kit. So wouldn't their be some sort of mark on the barrel somewhere where the machine held it? Especially if they are hard to hold?
