Question AKA and Gold Cup oil?

Does Gold Cup oil play nicely with Vikings, Excals, Sidewinders, etc? AKA seems to be fairly insistent in their manuals that "some" lubricants can degrade the o-rings in their products.

Yes it will, but I prefer using extreme lube (Dextron ATF fluid) and Palmer's oil (Pneumatic air tool oil).

I think gold cup has some petroleum in it. I would go for a synthetic air tool oil form the hardware store if you can't swing the extreme lube.

Sounds like it's worth the 6 bucks to avoid the bother and just pick up some of the Extreme lube from AKA. Thanks guys!

There.. maybe that will help.

Go to the auto parts store, pick up a bottle for 3 bucks, and use it the rest of your paintballing years.

I had been under the impression that dexron had petroleum derivatives in it, and that those were to be avoided.

And is it "Dexron," or "Dextron"

Almost every paintball lube on the market is just some other off the shelf stuff tossed ina fancy bottle.

Get synthetic ATF (isnt it all these days?), ATF is made for sensitive parts and valve body seals, which are much like what we have in paintball guns (only a tad tougher)

Ive been usiung ATF in my guns with no problem, even in winter.

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF

Now anything with "High mileage" or some other additive will usually have a detergent or additive that will cause seals to swell (and preventing leaks in a car).

I had known that most "paintball" lubricants were simply repurposed from air tools or industrial uses - I just didn't know enough about lubricants to know what source I could go to.

Thanks Azzy. That's...a lot of savings. And really, really amusing.

You get it in more places than paintball. Take motorcycles, you will find oils like HD oil is ust rebranded the same as the Autozone brand oil at the store. Some of the even fancier ones that push $10 a quart are less quality than good old Mobil 1 or Castrol GTX.

(I wouldnt use either of them in a gun that isnt made by tippman in the early 90's)

Oh yeah, I forgot that the Dexron (yes I meant Dexron, not Dextron) ATF Fluid that AKA uses does not have the red dye in it. I also started to use that blue stuff that comes in the nail polish bottle from Palmer's. Good stuff but it smells funny.
