| Active Member Join Date: Jun 2008 | What am I missing? I was reading my email, all about my new to me Viking, from Punkrex today. I know the Vikings are open bolt three tubers like an angel... Aren't the Excalibers similar? I ask becasue I was reading the WAS manual and it has a sniper mode. Will that make the marker operate in closed bolt fashion? That seems to be what I read in the manual. I take it then that the bolt and the ram to open the valve to fire the paintball are not connected? |

| MCB Member | Excals are closed bolt and if memory serves the sniper mode on the WAS board is only for the Excalibur. Something about it fires but the bolt doesn't cycle until you release the trigger. You are correct in the sense that the Vikings and the Excalibur are very similar, externally, but the operating systems are completely different. Good luck with the Vik you'll enjoy it to no end. |

| MCB Member | my knowledge of my Excal is limited, but i will tell you what i know. Sniper mode is indeed only for Excals. Sorry. Excals came first. Closed bolt, low pressure, beautiful markers. Then AKA wanted to make something faster that weighed a bit less. (Or this is how i heard). So they made the Viking; they could lower cycling time by making it open bolt, and in doing that they could get rid of one of the two rams the excal used. (as the other isn't needed to close the breach/bolt anymore). This also meant that you could mill the viking heavier as there was less on the inside to work around. I have no clue about software, i have the Pandora board with R mod, but i just had Jared at DC set it up for me, and i don't touch it. Every marker i touch that's my own i mess up somehow. I don't touch anything unless it's broken already now.

Classic Mode = Acts like a Mechanical Cocker WAS 2.0 is only available for the Viking and it is a software update that includes ramping. WAS 1.6 is the latest and probably the last update for the Excaliber but it fixes the dreaded FSDO problem from the 1.4. The main differences between the Viking and the Excaliber is that the Viking only has one solenoid and one ram and fires from the open bolt position like most of the other open bolt, electro pnuematic, poppit valve markers that are available today (E.g. Ego, Angel, Timmy, Cyborg). The Excaliber has 2 solenoids and 2 rams and fires from the closed bolt position just like a cocker and the old Shoeboxes.

I feel that it is the best board for a Viking considering it's availability and what not. I am sure Tadao is "Better" but it's pretty spendy and hard to find anymore.

You have to follow the directions to the letter or else you could smoke your board. Of course you could send the board in to DC, or some other gunwhore with too much stuff around here (garbageman, cough cough), and he can do it for you. The feedeneck thread is a proprietary threading. It is either called the AKA/Macdev feedneck threading since Macdev Markers use the same threading.
