Air America Apocalypse rebuild

So I picked up a couple (yes, two) of these recentley. I decided that I would make one good one and might sell the other for parts.

I am aware that one could go to the resident AA ebay store and buy all the correct seals. I have full intention of doing this.

My questions are as follows:

1. Can this (4500) reg be used with a 3k bottle?
2. On the LP outputs, can I use a normal nipple and 1200psi mini guage?
3. Where can I buy a new 5k psi guage?
4. What should be used as a thread sealant on all the 1/8th ports?

Much obliged,
III

1: Yes
2: Yes and you can flip them from side to side to work with your setup
3: Dunno, look around they are still out there.
4: AA used Red loc-tite (Blue if your squimish about using red), sparingly, you just want some loc-tite in the valleys of the last 2-3 threads, otherwise, use teflon tape. Make sure you use just enough tape and make sure the first thread doesnt have an on it, it can get sucked into the reg and gum up the works.

Make sure you get the reg seats that AAchopshop sells, thye are the proper ones. others sell softer ones that do not work properly for HP regs. Try bradys paintball, I think they had real AA kits also. If you need any help, pm me. Oh make sure that if you take the body halves apart, you replace the seat, you lose performance if you reuse seats................

4500 reg will be fine on a 3k bottle if you change the tank side burst disk. I think a 4500 tank has burst disks around 6750-7k, drop that down to a 5k and you should be fine. You can leave the LP side alone, that won't change with the pressure.

Yes

Most paintball shops I have been too would have them, I would go with a 6k on a 45 tank. I would always buy brand new gauges so don't cruise the forum for one unless its in a package, especially not on a tank.

Don't use any sealant on the burst disks, they are supposed to be tight enough that the disk blows not the thread lock. For the fill nipple, gauge and output teflon tape works fine.

Edit: if you want to seal the reg to the tank you can use red locktite but use it sparingly(a few drops near the bottom threads) and know that you will have a hell of a time getting it off. Normally theres an o-ring at the top of the reg to seal the neck area, make sure its there before you bolt the tank on. With the TSA crap going on, you may want to skip the red locktite and go blue so you can get it off to take the tank on a plane. Make sure you inspect the tank where it threads onto the reg every time you play, I recommend taking some light paint and putting a straight line across the tank/reg so you know if it ever moves.

If you put 2-3 drops of red loc-tite on the last three threads, let it wick around till it touches itself, then dab up any excess with a q-tip, it will NOT be hard to get off. I was usally able to do it by hand with the reg in a vice. Since the Apoc is a rail mount, you can leave the thread locker off, just torque it on by hand as tight as you can. Since your not twisting it to get it off, its fine.

FYI:

Brady's Paintball is effectively out of business, ( it's a shame too, I did quite a few transactions with them over the years. Something happened early this spring with them and they suddenly stopped shipping, unfortunately they were still accepting orders and money at least for a bit. I feel lucky that I was able to get refunds for my purchases but I understand others did not.
