A gear vs gear debate.

I am working on cutting down to 2 nice electros for my collection. One will be a really nice AM diadem ITS for reasons that should be obvious if you have been following the start of our new business. For the other I have 2 desires small light and fast.

My plans have been for a long time to get s wild tiger PTP micrococker and switch it to an egun. Thoug I have been an opponent of this for sometime I have yeilded to the e cocker trend.

This gun would fit all of those requirements quite nicely. However the wenchy one ( paint wench aka My much better half) acquired an Invert mini. I was again slow to warm up to the idea as an MCB'er I don't usually just go for the first new thing to come along. However after playing with this thing I REALLY like it. Now I can't decide which way to go for my tiny electro gun.

What do you folks think?

They don't come any tinier than the Mini....

Folks I've talked to who owned them said they had lots of problems. While they were remedied quickly and at no cost, it's still a pain to have a new marker go down frequently and also makes me wonder about longevity of the marker and components. I like to wait a year or two before I'll consider a marker from a company I don't know. But that's me.

I've looked at the Mini, and I like it. The only problem that I have with the gun is that the integrated reg/asa has no on/off capability. An asa with a bleeding on/off would be nice to have. The guys at the local shop have said that they think one will come standard on the next version.

Micro Cockers will tear themselves apart. The threading from the pump rod to the sled is the culprit. The stock is too thin there for the stresses involved. It will absolutely fail at some time or another. It's pretty much one of the reasons that they stopped making them.

As weird as it may sound coming from an MCB'er, you may be better off with the new thing.

Or just have a new bolt sled made for the micro cocker that is wider on the pump rod side..... have it black ano'd and it will be fine.

I just handled and dry fired a Mini the other day and I have to say that it sure is light and compact.

But let's be realistic here for a moment. What are you connecting to this marker to make it a system? A big Halo B? A watermelon like fiber wrapped 68 ci bottle? Sort of makes the slight differences between the Mini and a few other still small and still very light but slightly larger and heavier markers seem a bit less of a critical factor. And I guess some of this all depends on what you're using the marker for as well.

And of course some of the issue will be how you'll be using it. Speedball or just as an electro option for woodsball days? If speedball then to some extent volume counts and you're stuck with following the tried and true paths. As a woods or rec ball day deal where it may only require the rapid fire on short and special occasions a smaller and more compact setup overall may indeed prove very worthy of having the smallest and lightest marker at its core.

And we can't forget about price either.

I'm going through the same thing you are. I'm loving my mechanical pumps and semis but I want one nice electro. For cost, size, performance and maintainence balance I chose a used ICD Promaster. How I'm going to use it is still up for grabs but I think I'm going to go with a Ricochet Apache in smoke for the hopper and a 68 for the bottle for any speedball work. For a woods electro (isn't that almost an oxymoron? ) I'm going to try to see if I can set it up with my newly acquired 22ci HPA long bottle and a Qloader. If I can manage this combo it'll be light and hopefully compact.

Although the more I play with my mechanicals the less I like my electros. I could easily see myself coming to the same conclusion as RussC and saying that batteries have no place on a paintball field other than in the chrono and the refs' radios....

I'm not sure if the proper message came through in all that rambling but the idea is that there's a pretty good assortment of options that would fill the job. In the end it's up to you of course.

Something to consider is that you already have a Mini in the family. Perhaps it would be nice to have something else as an option. Perhaps your wife would see something that you and she both like as an option. Then you and your wife could practice marker swapping for that bit of extra titillation in your romance....

Actually it will have a viewloader tiripod with 140 round capaticy, a 13/3000 tank, a Be butt cap, and either a centerflag slide check reg, or a guerrila air myth (depending on weather or not wifey wants to give up her myth when she sees the new centerflag reg.

This would be for either setup and would be used for all my paint hosing needs. 140 rounds is huge when I typically carry a tube and a stock feed.

As cool as a mini is, it can never compare to the pure neato-factor of a PTP Micrococker.

do you get like a hopper and a pod off that tank? that'd be intense.
