How to take apart a SMG 68 Special, and a question

I've bout a 68 Special today, but it's kinda beat up and really really dirty (Still working though.).

I've taking the barrel and breach off, but I'm wondering how you take the hammer and valve out. Do you have to unscrew it from the back or is there some other trick?

Also, mine is blue, and it looks like it's been that from the factory. It also has some odd safety that's engaged by twisting the hammer a bit. I've never seen this on pictures before, what's up with this?

68 valve removal

I believe you just slide the valve back and up............The line has flex. Their is a pin that must be pushed out from the side of the frame first that holds the valve (assuming you have removed the breech block, tube and connector rod 1st.)

It's a little tricky.......I used a flat screwdriver to back off the valve. I have the smg 60 and the 68 special............they are both somewhat similar.

Tough gun...........built like a tank.........fun to shoot.

unscrew the rear cap on the back of the gun(the cap above where you screw in the air tank). then, remove the the main spring and guide pin. then, slide the hammer back until the cocking knob lines up with the hole on the side of the body and pull the knob out and the hammer will come out.

if the valve is not leaking, i suggest leaving it alone or you risk damaging the airline and that's a hard part to find for us in the USA, so you will have an even harder time finding it where your from.

the wierd safety your talking about is normal.

Cool, that did it, I just had to put some more force behind it, thanks!

Apart from a little rust and old, dried up paint, it's actually in pretty good condition. The airline seems to have always had some oil on it and still looks pretty good from what I can tell. I'm gonna do some testing on the field tomorrow. If I can get this damn syphon tube installed that is. There's this stupid nut in the valve that I just can't get out...

The only thing I still find odd is that the gun is blue...

as far as the blue goes... there were some 68 Specials that came in colors from the factory if i'm not mistaken.

can you explain that a little more?

inside the valve are 2 "plungers" that look like nuts, and they should come out easily after you remove the snap rings.

No no, I'm talking about a pinvalve for a co2 bottle. I need to get this nut out and put in the syphon tube.

I'll take pics tonight when my mum gets home from her little weekend trip with my camera.

They are fantastic guns, and fun to shoot. However with todays brittle paint, I found that heavy hammer, breaks paint really easily.
Have fun with her though !!!!
