Cool Suggestions for my PMI-I ?

I recently acquired a PMI-I from someone on the west coast. I planned on sending it to Palmer's anyway so instead of it going across the country twice, I just had the seller send it directly to PPS. I'm planning on getting a Performance Tune, Wedgits, standard quick strip, ball detent, and Fast change. So here are the things that I would like to know...

1) Are there any other things that you suggest getting PPS to install/upgrade?

2) Is the Speed Gate worth the $30? And would my rear sight have to be removed if I had one installed?

3) What is the difference between the Speed Demon Bolt and the standard Centerfire bolt? Would the Speed Demon bolt eliminate the need for the Quick strip machining from PPS?

4) Does anyone have a brass trigger shoe they would like to sell me?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

1) sounds like you have everything that's needed. if you want the gun to be quiet, get it ported.

2) it makes reloading a lot faster. the rear sight can still be used.

3) the SD bolt is much smoother than a standard bolt. the SD will not eliminate the need for the QS slot. however, the SD will allow you to pull the pump rod out without tools compared to the standard bolt.

What makes the SD bolt smoother than the stock bolt?

it has a ball bearing detent. makes it much easier to cock.

most people take the bearings out of the standard bolt and that makes for an easier and smoother pump stroke too.

Ahh so the ball bearings of the stock bolt put pressure on the inside of the upper tube when you cock?

If I removed the ball bearings, would I experience any problems with blowback?

Would a Scarecrow delrin bolt fix these problems or would only a SD fix them?

yep.

yes, blowback will increase by removing the bearings.

i'm not sure about the delrin bolt. i'd assume it won't fix it. keep in mind that the SD can have blowback too.

easiest thing to do to prevent blowback is to hold the pump forward when firing.

I have a SD bolt on a LB that is coming in. If the PMI-I is going to be what I use most often, would you suggest switching the two bolts?

as long as the SD is in good shape, i'd switch.

i'd also suggest that you take your SD apart and clean it up any rust or dirt real well to ensure smoothness. make sure you oil it well when you put it back togehter. new bearings will help a lot too because the old bearings may be rusty.

PPS uses a bolt with no BBs(pretty much the same set up as sheridan)

they say the blow back is good to have
I take them out of all my guns..

If PPS says so that's good enough for me .

Another quick question, does anyone know why my trigger is black and not rounded? Here is a pic of it...
