I've used oven cleaner on a variety of guns with great results.
Other people have used draino, and lye. They all have the same active ingredient: Sodium Hydroxide.
I like oven cleaner since its generally pure NaOH, and mild in concentration. Only tiny amounts are needed. Just GO OUTSIDE, PUT ON RUBBER GLOVES, and spray. Wait a few minutes, rinse. Check on the anno, then spray, wait, rinse, repeat.
Once the anno is removed, polish if needed to a mirror finish.
