Protege question...

Ok I have a really noobish question. I know one of the main differences between a Bob Long Vice and Protege is the lpr. So my question is, can a lpr be fitted to a Protege?

Thanks all

The only difference between the Protege and the vice as far as I remember were:

Milling
Board (Vice had Tadao)
Vice came with a pillow bolt
They may have had different triggers too...can't remember.

They both have LPR's but the vice's is milled differntly, internally they're the same.

Thank you. I was always told that it didn't have one. Thank you for clearing that up for me

One other one is that the Vice did away with the ram tube. With the Protege, you could remove the tube that held the ram, for replacement if needed. With the Vice, part of the milling, the lower tube is the ram tube, which means that it can't be replaced.

huh, that's cool, I only have a vice, so I just assumed the whole Gen5 platform had done away with the ram sleeve.

The Vices ram sleeve can be removed as well. I remember a few years ago when people were sending their Vices back to Blast to have the ram sleeve replaced and waiting FOREVER to get them back. The Blast machines were too busy pumping out G6Rs and Victorys at that point for them to stop, retool the machines, and makes ram sleeves and eye covers for the Gen5s.

To remove the ram sleeve. Take the ram/bolt out, then take the LPR off, and then the frame. You'll see a giant setscrew right in front of the solenoid. Take that screw out. You can either use a wooden spoon, a dowel or just some macroline and feed it through the ram area. With the macro you'll either catch the lip of the ramsleeve or pop the poppet out. The ram sleeve will come out the front.

And to answer the OP question. Their milling is different. The Vice came with the Pillow bolt, Tadao, and the current Bob Long feedneck. The Protege had a stock bolt, Frenezy board, and a twist locking feedneck.
