Rocket Valve Leak - Damage or Tuning?

I won't post this in the Tribal section as it should be applicable to similar guns and I will get more views here.

I swapped a stock valve for a Maddman Rocket Valve and immediately had a leak my tank flow down the barrel. The cone cup seal looks to be in good shape, but the plastic on the other end of the stem is a little chewed up:

I can't imagine this causing the leak as the spring should hold closed the valve. My understanding is that the Rocket Valve does not need a valve spring, at least in Cockers. Should I turn up the LPR to force the valve closed? Or does a ram drive poppet like the Tribal require a spring against the cone to keep it closed?

Looks like the O-rings on the outside edge of your valve are chewed up. I'd replace those first.

Whoa, how'd I miss that.

Took the o-rings off the stock valve, it's working great. Thanks!
